91. SHRI BANĀRAS TIRTHA (SHRI PARSHVANATH BHAGAVAN)
The tirtha is situated in the Bhelupur mohalla in the city of Benaras; the city is also known by the names Varanasi and Kashi. In the name 'Varanasi', there lies the memory of the confluence of the two rivers Varana and Asi. The city is situated on the holy Ganga river at a distance of 765 kms. from Delhi, 565 kms. from Agra and 286 kms. from Lucknow. This land holds greater glory particularly because it is the land of four Kalyanakas of Bhagavan Parshvanatha. According to Jain mythology, in remote past, Shri Suparshvanatha was born here. In the neighbouring Chandrapuri and Simhapuri were born Shri Chandraprabhu Bhagavan and Shri Shreyansanatha Bhagavan. Thus it is that a total of 16 Kalyanakas took place here. This place was the capital city of the Malla kings in the times of Bhagavan Mahavir. In the ancient times this place had so many vast Jina temples; so many of these have been destroyed by the blows of times, though of course we get some information of that old past unearthed by the researches of the archaeological department. Here is installed the idol of MULANAYAKA Shri Parshvanath Bhagavan. Other idols are also found here. There are, in addition, some twelve Shvetambara Jain temples. This spot is a renowned tirtha of Hinduism also. This land is sanctified by the sermonizing words of Shri Parshvanath Bhagavan and Shri Mahavira Bhagavan.
૯૧. શ્રી. બનારસ તીર્થ (શ્રીપાર્શ્વનાથ ભગવાન)
બનારસ શહેરના ભેલુપુર મહોલ્લામાં આ તીર્થ આવેલું છે. આ શહેર વારાણસીઅને કાશીના નામથી પણ જાણીતું છે.અહીંની વરણા અને અસી નામની બે નદીઓના સંગમની સ્મૃતિ વારાક્ષસી નામમાં જળવાયેલી છે. દિલ્હીથી ૭૬૫ કિ.મી., આમાંથી ૫૬૫ કિ.મી. અને લખનૌથી ૨૮૬ કિ.મી. દૂર પરમપાવન ગંગા નદીને કિનારે આ શહેર આવેલું છે. આ ભૂમિ ભગવાન પાર્શ્વનાથનાં ચાર કલ્યાણકોની ભૂમિ હોવાથી એનો વિશેષ મહિમા છે. જૈન અનુશ્રુતિઓ પ્રમાણે તો અતિ પ્રાચીન કાળમાં શ્રીસુપાર્શ્વનાથ ભગવાનનો જન્મ અહીં થયો હતો. નજીકમાંઆવેલી ચંદ્રપુરીમાં શ્રીચંદ્રપ્રભુભગવાનનો અને સિંહપુરીમાં શ્રીશ્રેયાંસનાથ ભગવાનનો જન્મ થયો હતો. ઇ.સ. પૂર્વે નવમી સદીમાં શ્રીપાર્શ્વનાથ ભગવાનનો જન્મ થયો હતો. આમ અહીં કુલ સોળ કલ્યાણકી થયેલો છે. ભગવાન મહાવીરના સમયમાં આ મહત્વ રાજાઓની રાજધાની હતી. પ્રાચીન સમયમાં અહીં અનેક વિશાળ જિનમંદિરી હતાં, પરંતુ કાળના સપાટામાં એમાંનાં કેટલાક નષ્ટ થઇ ગયાં. જોકે પુરાતત્ત્વ ખાતાના સંશોધનને પરિણામે આજે એ ભૂતકાળની માહિતીઓ ઉપલબ્ધ થઇ છે.અહીં મૂળનાયક શ્રીપાર્શ્વનાથ ભગવાનની મૂર્તિ બિરાજમાન છે અને બી પ્રતિમાઓ પણ મળે છે.આ ઉપરાંતઅત્યારે બાર જેટલાં વેતામ્બર જૈનમંદિરો છે. આ સસ્થળ એ હિંદુ ધર્મનું પ્રસિદ્ધ તીર્થ છે.આ નગરી શ્રીપાર્શ્વનાથ ભગવાનઅને શ્રીમહાવીર ભગવાનની ઉપદેશવાણીથી પાવન બનેલી છે.
