48. SHRI KAVI TIRTHA
(SHRI ADISHVARA BHAGAVAN AND SHRI DHARMANATH BHAGAVAN)
This tirtha is situated on the sea-shore in the vicinity of Kavi village which is at a distance of 96 kms. from Baroda and 80 kms. from Broach. The ancient name of Kavi is kanakavati. It has two vast Jina temples; one is named Sarvajitaprasad and the other Ratnatilakaprasad. In the former resides MULANAYAKA Shri Rushabhadeva Bhagavan. Its renovation took place at the auspicious hands of Shri Vijayasenasurishvaraji in V.S. 1649. At this time Shreshthi Badua Gandhi converted this temple of wood and bricks into a majestic temple with peaks of stone. The temple is 90 ft. on east-west and 61 ft. in north and south in length and breadth.
The temple of Shri Dharmanatha Bhagavan was got constructed by Smt. Virabai, the wife of Shri Kunvarji Gandhi, a descendent of Ladaka Gandhi, in V.S. 1655. Its ceremonious installation took place at the auspicious hands of revered Acharya Shri Vijayasenasurishvaraji. In this temple, Shri Dharmanath Bhagavan presides as Mulanayaka. This temple has a tall peak and 52 small temples of gods. It is stated that this temple was named as Ratnatilakaprasad. Now and again the temple is renovated and repaired. According to an anecdote, this is known as a temple of mother-in-law and daugther-in-law. There was a rivalry between Smt. Hirabai and her daugther-in-law Veerabhai and this resulted in the construction of this temple. The art of the peaks of the temple as also the atmosphere all-around is very beautiful and inspires sacred feelings.
૪૮. શ્રી કાવી તીર્થ (શ્રીઆદીશ્વર ભગવાન તથા શ્રીધર્મનાથ ભગવાન) વડોદરાથી ૧૬ કિ.મી. અને ભરૂચથી ૮૦ કિ.મી. દૂર આવેલા કાવી ગામ પાસે સમુદ્રતટ પર આ તીર્થઆવેલું છે. કાવીનું પ્રાચીન નામ છે કંકાવતી.અહીં બે વિશાળ જિનમંદિરો આવેલાં છે. એકનું નામ છે સર્વજીતપ્રાસાદ અને બીજાનું નામ છે રત્નતિલકપ્રાસાદ, સર્વજીતપ્રાસાદમાં મૂળનાયક શ્રી ઋષભદેવ ભગવાન બિરાજે છે. આનો જીર્ણોદ્ધાર વિ.સં. ૧૬૪૯માં શ્રી વિજયસેનસૂરીશ્વરજી મ.ના સુહસ્તે થયો હતો. આ સમયે શ્રેષ્ઠી બડુ ગાંધીએ કાષ્ઠ અને ઈટોના બનાવેલા મંદિરને પથ્થરના શિખરબંધી ભવ્ય મંદિરમાં ફેરવી નાંખ્યું. આ મંદિર પૂર્વ-પશ્ચિમ ૯૦ ફૂટ અને ઉત્તર-દક્ષિણ ૬૧ ફૂટ લાંબુંપહોળું છે. શ્રીધર્મનાથ ભગવાનનું મંદિર વિ.સં. ૧૬૫૫માં લાડકા ગાંધીના વંશજ શ્રી કુંવરજી ગાંધીનાં ધર્મપત્ની શ્રીમતી વીરાબાઇએ નિર્માણ કરાવ્યું અને એની પૂઆ. શ્રી વિજયસેનસૂરીશ્વરજી મ.ના સુહસ્તે પ્રતિષ્ઠા કરાવી.આ મંદિરમાં મૂળનાયક તરીકે શ્રી ધર્મનાથ ભગવાન બિરાજે છે. આ મંદિર શિખરબંધી અને બાવન દેવકુલિકાવાળું છે. આનું નામ રત્નતિલકપ્રાસાદ રાખવામાં આવ્યું હતું તેવો ઉલ્લેખ મળે છે. સમયે સમયે આ મંદિરનો જીર્ણોદ્ધાર થયો છે. એક દંતકથા અનુસાર આને સાસુ-વહુનું મંદિર કહેવામાં આવે છે. શ્રીમતી હીરાબાઇ અને એમની પુત્રવધૂ વીરાબાઈ વચ્ચે મંદિર બાંધવાની સ્પર્ધા થઈ અને તેને પરિણામે આ મંદિર બંધાયું. આ મંદિરનાં શિખરોની કલા તેમ જ એની આસપાસનું દશ્ય અત્યંત રમણીય અને પવિત્ર ભાવપ્રેરક છે.
