Daftary "Commentary on non-violence" Non- Violence in Gujarati would mean (24 424243) one of the most important principal of Jainism is (282) which means Non-Violence is the Supreme religion and duty of every living being. To define what is Non-violence, we will have to study what is violence. Violence in the common parlance would mean injury, fury, force, hurt, harm, inflict upon a person or to kill these are dictionery meanings. As per the doctrine and philosophy, verbly or mentally nor hurt the fellings of not only human beings but of any living being. To condemm or censure some one would also mean being violent. The opposite of the aforesaid would mean 'NonViolence. Let me illustrate this, if one even thinks of inflicting pain, agony, assault, barbery or to mentally torture of even decide or conspire to kill any being would tantamant to being violent. Even law has accepted 'mens Rea' i.e. guilty mind or to conspire or convance to kill any one would vulnerably mean contemptuous or would mean first degree murder. I will not leave you, let my good time come, I will take revenge, when utter these words agrity to someone or even mentally decide, it would mean being violent, both in legal and religious parlance.
