________________ PUBLISHER'S NOTE We feel extremely delighted to present to the world of scholars, taking genuine interest in the study of Buddhist Tantras, the second volume of the Vimalaprabha, a commentary on the Kalacakra Tantra, being published by Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies, Sarnath, Varanasi. The first volume of this commentary was critically edited by the late Prof. Jagannath Upadhyaya. It was Prof. Upadhyaya who first conceived such an important research-project of editing and publishing the Buddhist Tantric texts. He began to give a concrete shape to his holy resolution, as soon as he was awarded the prestigious Nehru Fellowship and spent a major portion of the amount of that fellowship towards collecting the manuscripts of Buddhist Tantras. At the same time, he extended his invaluable help to the Saraswati Bhavan Library of Sampurnanand Sanskrit University and Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies, in acquisition of the manuscripts procured in various forms. His endeavour gained desired fruits, as the Central Government finally conveyed its willingness to provide adequate financial support for the Rare Buddhist Texts Research Project and the work of the Project began in 1985, under the able directorship of Prof. Upadhyaya. It was our great misfortune indeed that Prof. Upadhyaya left this world, quite prematurely, soon after the publication of the first volume of the Vimalaprabha and the first Special Issue of the biannual journal Dhih. His sudden demise gave a mighty blow to the progress of the project. However, his devoted colleagues, Prof. Vrajavallabh Dwivedi, the then Deputy Director of the project and other members of the staff continued to work rigorously and brought out critical editions
