दानवीरका स्वर्गवास। fully deserved the appelation of “Danvir Jainkulbhusan" which was bestowed on him in these parts.
He belonged to the Digambar sect of Jains, and in all parts of India, bis helping hand reached the needy and poor of his community and assisted them most liberally. He early saw the utility of Boarding Houses if education was to spread, and his long purse was always op aud to plan out and build Hostels in several towns in and out of the Bombay Presidency. Io B mbay proper, he wuld best be remembered by the splendid pile of building, which he has ererted in that part of the town which is most thickly inhabited by Hindus, and called the Hirabag. It is ustd as a Dharmashala for: all Hindu pilgrims, where they get accommodation of the best class aud as an appa vago of which is a fiue lecture hall, which is used as a T..wa Hall of the locality. A mere p rusal of the list obis donations is enough to engend-r feelings of almiration for a man, who in raising himself from pov: riy to wealth, never forgot the uses t, which is «norm:»us wealth could be put, and consequenily gave thrun & practical and enduring shape Even ou his death bid he has made a trust of Rupees two lace and a half, all to be utilised for (sectarian) charitable purposes.
He gavo anay Rs. 8,000 for repairing & Jaia temple at Surati, Rs. 25 000 for building a Dharmashala at Surat; Rs. 2 1000 for repairing a Dharmashala at Palitana; Rs. 80,000 for a Jain Boarding House in Bombay; Rs. 22,000 for a Jain Boarding House at Kolbapur; Rs. 40,000 for a similar institution at Ahmedabad; Rs. 1,25,000 for a Dharmabala (Hirabag) in Bombay: Rs. 50,000 for a boarding houss at Jabbalpore; Rs. 15,000 for a dispensary at Ahmedaabd.
