________________
Šataka (Sūtra 27, page 130) has been referred to but the full text is not there. It is indicated there to refer to 'Rayapasena-ima' sutra.
The abridged text of Sütra 16/71 refers to the chapter of 'Udrāyaṇa (13,117, page 614) only not to find the full text there. In the same way 16/121, 18/56 and 18/77 indicate regarding the full text, but it is not found at the places referred to..
On the basis of these references, it is inferred that the texts, at the places referred to, were complete at the time of their abridgement. But after that, some Anuyogadhara Acharya abridged those full texts also. The words 'Jawa', 'Jaha' etc. have been used for abridgement.
In some instances, the use of 'Jawa' is more or less unnecessary. It is either due to negligence on the part of the transcriber or has been written as usual without discernment. The transcribers have taken plenty of freedom in the use of 'Jawa'. If someone transcribed Pawaphala Jawa Kajjanti, the other has written it as 'Pawaphala virvaga Jawa Kajjati'. Along with the short readings even such as 'winda' (7/196), 'Payoga' (8/17) 'Sahassa' (16/103) the word 'Jawa' has been added. The abridgements of the text, therefore, seem to have been done from time to time by the scribes.
The Agama under review has two main Vaćnās, abridged and full. The length of the abridged version of the work is regarded to be a total of 15751 Anuştupa Ślokas. The extent of the full version of the work is regarded to be a total of one lakh and a quarter Anuştupa Ślokas. Abhayadeva Süri has written his commentary on the basis of the abridged version of this Agama. In editing the text, we have, as far as needed, completed the texts introduced by the words 'Jawa' etc., resulting the total length of the work to a measure of 19319 Anuştupa Slokas and 16 letters more.
