[ Surya Prajnapti Sutra ]
**The arrangement of the Moon and Sun, as described in the Samchaturansa-Santhita, is not to be accepted. The arrangement of the Sun's orbit is as follows:**
**P. - How is the arrangement of the Sun's orbit?**
**U. - There are sixteen different views on this matter, as follows:**
1. **Some say:** The arrangement of the Sun's orbit is based on the arrangement of houses.
2. **Some say:** The arrangement of the Sun's orbit is based on the arrangement of the courtyard.
3. **Some say:** The arrangement of the Sun's orbit is based on the arrangement of the passageway.
4. **Some say:** The arrangement of the Sun's orbit is based on the arrangement of the gate.
5. **Some say:** The arrangement of the Sun's orbit is based on the arrangement of the back room.
6. **Some say:** The arrangement of the Sun's orbit is based on the arrangement of the Valabhi.
7. **Some say:** The arrangement of the Sun's orbit is based on the arrangement of the Hamiyatala.
**Only one of these sixteen views is accepted by the Sutrakar. The Vrittikar says:**
"Tathetyadi - tatra tesham sodasham paratirthikanam madhye ye te vadin evam ahuḥ - samchaturansasanthita chandrasuryasanthitiḥ prajnasai iti, etena nayena, netavyaṁ etena abhiprāyeṇāsmānmate'pi chandra-suryasanthitiravadharyeti bhavah, tathahi - 'iha sarve'pi kalaviseshaḥ susamasusamadayo yugamulaḥ. yugasya chadau shravana mase bahulapakshapratipadi pratarudayasamaye ekasuryo dakshinapurvasyaṁ disi vartate, tadvitiyastva parottarasyaṁ, chandramā api tat samaye eko dakshinaparasyaṁ disi vartate, dvitiya uttarapurvasyamata eteshv yugasya dau chandra-suryah samchaturansasanthita vartante."
**Translation:**
"The word 'Tathetyadi' refers to the fact that among these sixteen views of the Paratirthikas, some say that the arrangement of the Moon and Sun is based on the Samchaturansa-Santhita. This view is not to be accepted. Our view is that the arrangement of the Moon and Sun should be understood in this way:
"All these specific times, like the beginning of the Yuga, are based on the balance of the seasons. At the beginning of the Yuga, on the first day of the bright fortnight of the month of Shravana, at sunrise, the Sun is in the southeast direction, the second Sun is in the northeast direction, and the Moon is in the south direction, and the second Moon is in the northeast direction. At the beginning of the Yuga, the Moon and Sun are arranged in a square."
