When there is no faith in self-knowledge, the possibilities of knowledge and other virtues also disappear.
He who does not know the self, does not know the non-self. He who does not know the self and the non-self, how can he be restrained? || 35 ||
He who knows the self, knows the non-self. He who knows the self and the non-self, he is not restrained. || 36 ||
He who knows both the self and the non-self, he knows all beings in many ways. || 37 ||
He who knows all beings in many ways, he attains merit and virtue. He who attains merit and virtue, he knows the bondage and liberation. || 38 ||
He who knows the bondage and liberation, he knows the divine and the human. || 39 ||
He who knows the divine and the human, he controls the internal and external associations. || 40 ||
He who controls the internal and external associations, he becomes a monk, a renunciate. || 41 ||
He who becomes a monk, a renunciate, he attains the supreme Dharma, the restraint of the senses. || 42 ||
He who attains the supreme Dharma, the restraint of the senses, he purifies the karma, the defilement. || 43 ||
He who purifies the karma, the defilement, he attains all-pervading knowledge and vision. || 44 ||
He who attains all-pervading knowledge and vision, he knows the world and the non-world, he becomes a Jina, a Kevali. || 45 ||
He who knows the world and the non-world, he becomes a Jina, a Kevali, he renounces the world, he becomes a monk. || 46 ||
He who renounces the world, he becomes a monk, he destroys the karma, he attains liberation. || 47 ||
He who destroys the karma, he attains liberation, he becomes a Siddha, a liberated soul. || 48 ||
