[Surya Prajnapti Sutra]
**14. Impurity:** Asvadhyaya (study) is prohibited until the appearance of excrement and urine.
**15. Cremation Ground:** Asvadhyaya is prohibited within a hundred cubits (hastas) around a cremation ground.
**16. Lunar Eclipse:** During a lunar eclipse, Asvadhyaya should not be performed for eight praharas (a unit of time) for the lowest category, twelve praharas for the middle category, and sixteen praharas for the highest category.
**17. Solar Eclipse:** During a solar eclipse, Asvadhyaya is also prohibited for eight, twelve, and sixteen praharas respectively.
**18. Demise:** When a great king or a national leader passes away, Asvadhyaya should not be performed until their cremation. Alternatively, Asvadhyaya should be gradually resumed until a new authority takes over.
**19. Royal Conflict:** When neighboring kings engage in war, Asvadhyaya should be prohibited until peace is restored. Even after peace is established, Asvadhyaya should be avoided for one day and night.
**20. Noble Body:** When a five-sense being dies within an Upashraya (Jain temple), Asvadhyaya should be prohibited until the body is removed. If the lifeless body remains within a hundred cubits, Asvadhyaya should be avoided.
The above ten reasons for Asvadhyaya are related to the noble body.
**21-28. Four Festivals and Four Mahapratipada:** The four festivals are Ashadha Purnima, Ashwin Purnima, Kartik Purnima, and Chaitra Purnima. The pratipada (first day) following these full moons is called Mahapratipada. Asvadhyaya is prohibited during these periods.
**29-32. Morning, Evening, Midday, and Midnight:** Asvadhyaya should be avoided one ghari (a unit of time) before and after sunrise, one ghari before and after sunset, one ghari before and after midday, and one ghari before and after midnight.
