## The Moon's Motion in One Muhurta (1/60th of a Ghati)
In one Muhurta, the Moon travels 1768 parts of its respective Mandala (circle).
There are 1768 Ardhamandalas (half-circles) in one Yuga (epoch). One Yuga is 1830 days.
How many nights and days does the Moon take to complete one Mandala (circle)?
To find this:
-
1830 days x 2 Ardhamandalas
3660
1768 parts
1768
=
2 days 124/1768 parts.
To convert 124/1768 parts into Muhurtas, multiply them by 30:
124 x 30 = 3720 = 465
221 x 109800
13725
=
-
1768 1768 221
= 2 days 2 Muhurtas 23/221 parts.
Therefore, the Moon completes one Mandala in 2 days 2 Muhurtas 23/221 parts.
What is the Moon's speed in one Muhurta?
If the Moon travels 109800 parts (the circumference of the Mandala) in 62 Muhurtas 23/221 parts, then to find its speed in one Muhurta:
24265800 13725
Multiplying by
1768 parts
The Moon travels 1768 parts in one Muhurta.
The Sun travels 1830 parts in one Muhurta.
The Sun completes one Mandala in two days, meaning it travels 109800 parts in 60 Muhurtas. How many parts does it travel in one Muhurta?
