There are eight types of Gol-chhaya, as follows:
1. Gol-chhaya 2. Avaddha-gol-chhaya 3. Gadha-gol-chhaya 4. Avaddha-gadha-gol-chhaya 5. Golvali-chhaya 6. Avaddha-golavali-chhaya 7. Gol-punj-chhaya 8. Avaddha-gol-punj-chhaya.
1. This Sutra mentions twenty-five types of chhaya and eight types of Gol-chhaya. Tatthetyadi, tatra = tasam panchavimshti-chhayana madhye khalvayam gol-chhaya ashtavidha prajnapta.
This statement from the commentary of Surya Prajnapti suggests that there was a type of chhaya called 'Gol-chhaya' among the twenty-five types, and it had eight distinct types. However, the three copies of Surya Prajnapti, '1 A.S. 2 Sha.S. 3 A.Su.', only list seventeen names for chhaya and eight names for Gol-chhaya. This makes a total of twenty-five names. The seventeen names do not include Gol-chhaya, yet it is surprising to accept the twenty-five names as complete, aligning with the 'Tatthetyadi' text.
One 'H.Gr.' copy lists twenty-five names for chhaya and eight names for Gol-chhaya, which aligns with the original text.
