अनुत्तरौपपातिकदशा करने मात्र से भी थक जाते थे। जैसे सूखी लकड़ियों से भरी हुई गाड़ी, पत्तों से भरी हुई गाड़ी, पत्ते, तिल और सूखे सामान से भरी हुई गाड़ी, एरंड की लकड़ियों से भरी हुई गाड़ी, कोयले से भरी हुई गाड़ी, ये सब गाड़ियाँ धूप में अच्छी तरह सुखाकर जब चलती हैं, खड़-खड़ आवाज करती हुई चलती हैं और आवाज करती हुई खड़ी रहती हैं, इसी प्रकार जब धन्य अनगार चलते, तो उनकी हड्डियाँ खड़-खड़ आवाज करतीं और खड़े रहते हुए भी खड़-खड़ आवाज करतीं। यद्यपि वे शरीर से दुर्बल हो गये थे, तथापि वे तप से पुष्ट थे। उनका मांस और खून क्षीण हो गया था। राख के ढेर में दबी हुई अग्नि की तरह वे तप से, तेज से और तपस्तेज की शोभा से अतीव-अतीव] शोभित हो रहे थे।

१०–धण्णस्स णं अणगारस्स पायाणं अयमेयारूवे तवरूवलावण्णे होत्था - से जहानामए सुक्कछल्ली इ वा कट्ठपाउया इ वा जरग्गओवाहणा इवा, एवामेव धण्णस्स अणगारस्स पाया सुक्का लुक्खा निम्मंसा अट्ठिचम्मछिरत्ताए पण्णायंति, नो चेवणं मंससोणियत्ताए।
धण्णस्स णं अणगारस्स पायंगुलियाणं अयमेयारूवे तवरूवलावण्णे होत्था से जहानामए कलसंगलिया इ वा मुग्गसंगलिया इ वा माससंगलिया इ वा, तरुणिया छिण्णा, उण्हे दिण्णा, सुक्का समाणी मिलायमाणी चिट्ठति, एवामेव धण्णस्स पायंगुलियाओ सुक्काओ [लुक्खाओ निम्मंसाओ अट्ठिचम्मछिरत्ताए पण्णायंति, नो चेवणं मंस] सोणियत्ताए।

They were recognized only by the bones, skin, and veins. Due to the depletion of flesh and blood, their feet were not recognizable.

The toes of the blessed *Anugār* had become of this kind of form and color: just as the pods of peas, the pods of mung beans, the pods of black gram, and when these tender pods are broken and put in the sun, they become dry and withered, so also the toes of the blessed *Anugār* had become dry, rough, and devoid of flesh, that is, they had withered. Only the bones, skin, and veins remained in them, flesh and blood were not (generally) present in them.
