Eighth Study: Mahashataka
[Like Bhagavan (189), he too went to serve the Lord. Similarly, he too accepted the vrata of a Shravaka. The only difference was that Mahashataka set a limit of eight crore copper-denominated gold coins as his possession in the form of treasure etc., and also set a limit of eight Gokulas. Apart from his thirteen wives like Revati, he renounced the rest of the sexual indulgence. He renounced all other vows like a Ananda. He only took one special vow - I will limit my daily transactions to two drona-measure copper-denominated gold coins.]
236. Then that Mahashataka became a Shramanopasakha and started living (the life of a religious householder).
237. Then the Shramana Bhagavan Mahavira started wandering in other regions.
238. Then Revati, the housewife, while awake at some time in the first or last part of the night, had such thoughts - "Alas! I am not able to enjoy the abundant human pleasures along with the Shramanopasakha Mahashataka due to the obstacles caused by these twelve co-wives of mine. Therefore, it would be better for me to destroy the life of these twelve co-wives by fire, weapon or poison, and then, having acquired their one crore gold coins and one Gokula each, live enjoying the abundant human pleasures along with the Shramanopasakha Mahashataka." Thus contemplating, she started vigilantly observing the gaps and openings in these twelve co-wives.
