सुरादेव की पत्नी धन्या ने जब यह चिल्लाहट सुनी तो वह तुरन्त पोषधशाला में आई और अपने पति से पूछने लगी--क्या बात है? आप ऐसा क्यों कर रहे है? इस पर सुरादेव ने वह सारी घटना धन्या को बतलाई। धन्या बड़ी बुद्धिमती थी। उसने अपने पति से कहा--आपको धर्म से डिगाने के लिए यह देव-उपसर्ग था। आपके पुत्र सकुशल हैं। आपकी देह में रोग पैदा करने की बात धमकी के सिवाय कुछ नहीं थी। भयभीत होकर आपने अपना व्रत खण्डित कर दिया, यह दोष हुआ, प्रायश्चित लेकर आपको शुद्ध होना चाहिए। सुरादेव ने अपनी पत्नी की बात सहर्ष स्वीकार की। अपनी भूल के लिए आलोचना की, प्रायश्चित्त ग्रहण किया।
सुरादेव का उत्तरवर्ती जीवन चुलनीपिता की तरह धर्मोपासना में अधिकाधिक गतिशील रहा। उसने व्रतों का भली-भाँति अनुसरण करते हुए बीस वर्ष तक श्रावक-धर्म का पालन किया, ग्यारह उपासक-प्रतिमाओं की सम्यक् आराधना की, एक मास की अन्तिम संलेखना और एक मास का अनशन सम्पन्न कर समाधि-पूर्वक देह-त्याग किया। सौधर्म देवलोक में अरुणकान्त विमान में वह देव-रूप में उत्पन्न हुआ।
