[उपासकदशांगसूत्र गोकुल थे। प्रत्येक गोकुल में दस-दस हजार गाएं थीं। गाथापति आनन्द की तरह वह राजा, एश्वर्यशाली पुरूष आदि विशिष्ट जनों के सभी प्रकार के कार्यों का सत्परामर्श आदि द्वारा वर्धापक-आगे बढ़ाने वाला था।
भगवान महावीर पधारे - समवसरण हुआ। भगवान् की धर्म-देशना सुनने परिषद् जुड़ी। आनन्द की तरह चुलनीपिता भी घर से निकला - भगवान की सेवा में आया। आनन्द की तरह उसने भी श्रावकधर्म स्वीकार किया।
गौतम ने जैसे आनन्द के सम्बन्ध में भगवान् से प्रश्न किए थे, उसी प्रकार चुलनीपिता के भावी जीवन के सम्बन्ध में भी किए। भगवान् ने समाधान दिया।
आगे की घटना गाथापति कामदेव की तरह है। चुलनीपिता पोषधशाला के ब्रह्मचर्य एवं पोषध स्वीकार कर, श्रमण भगवान् महावीर के पास अंगीकृत धर्म-प्रज्ञप्ति-धर्म शिक्षा के अनुरूप उपासना-रत हुआ। उपसर्गकारी देव : प्रादुर्भाव
१२६. तए णं तस्स चुलनीपियस्स समणोवासयस्स पुव्व-रत्तावरत्तकाल-समयंसि एगे देवे अंतियं पाउब्भूए।
__ आधी रात के समय श्रमणोपासक चुलनीपिता के समक्ष एक देव प्रकट हुआ। पुत्र-वध की धमकी -
१२७. तए णं से देवे एगं महं नीलुप्पल जाव असिं गहाय चुलणीपियं समणोवासयं एवं वयासी-हं भो चुलणीपिया! समणोवासया! जहा कामदेवो जावन भंजेसि, तो ते अहं अज जेटुं पुत्तं साओ गिहाओ नीणेमि, नीणेत्ता तव अग्गओ घाएमि घाएत्ता तओ मंससोल्ले करेमि, करेत्ता आदाण-भरियसि कडाहयंसि अद्दहेमि अहहेत्ता तव गायं मंसेण य सोणिएण य आयंचामि, जहा णं तुमं अट्ट-दुहट्ट-वसट्टे अकाले चेव जीवियाओ ववरोविज्जसि।
उस देव ने एक बड़ी नीली तेज धार वाली तलवार निकाल कर जैसे पिशाच रूप धारी देव ने कामदेव से कहा था, वैसे ही श्रमणोपासक चुलनीपिता को कहा--श्रमणोपासक चुलनीपिता! व्रतों से हट जाओ। यदि तुम अपने व्रत नहीं तोड़ोगे, तो मैं आज तुम्हारे बड़े पुत्र को घर से निकाल लाऊंगा। निकाल कर तुम्हारे आगे उसे मार डालूंगा। मारकर उसके तीन मांस-खंड करूंगा, उबलते आद्रहणपानी या तैल से भरी कढ़ाही में खौलाऊंगा। उसके मांस और रक्त में तुम्हारे शरीर को सींचूगा-- छीटूंगा। जिससे तुम आर्तध्यान एवं विकट दुःख से पीड़ित होकर असमय में ही प्राणों से हाथ धो

Then that Dev, taking out a large blue sword with a sharp edge, said to the Shraman-Upasaka Chulani-pita, just as the Dev in the form of a Pisach had said to Kamadeva, "O Chulani-pita! Shraman-Upasaka! If you do not break your vows, then today I will take your eldest son from your house. I will take him and kill him in front of you. I will cut his body into three pieces of flesh and boil them in a cauldron filled with boiling water or oil. I will sprinkle your body with his flesh and blood, so that you will be tormented by great pain and suffering and die prematurely."
