क्लान्त और खिन्न होकर धीरे-धीरे पीछे हटा। पीछे हटकर पोषधशाला से बाहर निकला। बाहर निकल कर देवमायाजन्य (विक्रिया - विनिर्मित) पिशाच रूप का त्याग किया। वैसा कर एक विशालकाय, देवमायाप्रसूत हाथी का रूप धारण किया। वह हाथी सुपुष्ट सात अंगों (चार पैर, सूंड जननेन्द्रिय और पूंछ) से युक्त था। उसकी देह रचना सुन्दर और सुगठित थी । वह आगे से उदग्र- ऊंचा या उभरा हुआ था, पीछे से सूअर के समान झुका हुआ था। उसकी कुक्षि-- जठर बकरी की कुक्षि की तरह सटी हुई थी। उसका नीचे का होठ और सूंड लम्बे थे। मुंह से बाहर निकले हुए दांत बेले की अधखिली कली के सदृश उजले और सफेद थे । वे सोने की म्यान में प्रविष्ट थे अर्थात् उन • पर सोने की खोल चढ़ी थी। उसकी सूंड का अगला भाग कुछ खींचे हुए धनुष की तरह सुन्दर रूप मुड़ा हुआ था। उसके पैर कछुए के समान प्रतिपूर्ण - परिपुष्ट और चपटे । उसके बीस नाखुन थे। उसकी पूंछ देह से सटी हुई--सुन्दर तथा प्रमाणोपेत--समुचित लम्बाई आदि आकार लिए हुए थी। वह हाथी मद से उन्मत्त था । बादल की तरह गरज रहा था। उसका वेग मन और पवन के वेग को जीतने वाला था ।

१०२. विउव्वित्ता जेणेव पोसह -साला, जेणेव कामदेवे समणोवासए तेणेव उवागच्छइ, उवागच्छित्ता कामदेवं समणोवासयं एवं वयासी-हं भो ! कामदेवा ! समणोवासया ! तव भइ जाव (जइ णं तुझं अज्ज सीलाइं, वयाइं वेरमणाई, पच्चक्खाणाई पोसहोववासाई न छड्डेसि, ) न भंजेसि, तो ते अज्ज अहं सोंडाए गिण्हामि, गिण्हित्ता पोसह - सालाओ नीम, नीणित्ता उड्ढं वेहासं उव्विहामि, उव्विहित्ता, तिक्खेहिं दंत-मुसलेहिं पडिच्छामि, पडिच्छित्ता, अहे धरणि-बसि तिक्खुत्तो पाएसु लोलेमि, जहा णं तुमं अट्ट दुहट्ट - वसट्टे अकाले चेव जीवियाओ क्रोविज्जसि ।
ऐसे हाथी के रूप की विक्रिया करके पूर्वोक्त देव जहां पोषधशाला थी, जहां श्रमणोपासक कामदेव था, वहां आया । आकर श्रमणोपासक कामदेव से पूर्ववर्णित पिशाच की तरह बोला-- यदि तुम अपने व्रतों को (शील, व्रत, विरमण, प्रत्याख्यान एवं पोषधोपवास का त्याग नहीं करते हो, ) भंग नहीं करते हो तो मैं तुमको अपनी सूंड से पकड़ लूंगा। पकड़ कर पोषधशाला से बाहर ले जाऊंगा । बाहर ले जा कर ऊपर आकाश में उछालूंगा। उछाल कर अपने तीखें और मूसल जैसे दांतों से झेलूंगा । झेल कर नीचे पृथ्वी पर तीन बार पैरों से रौदूंगा, जिससे तुम आर्तध्यान और विकट दुःख से पीड़ित होते हुए असमय में ही जीवन से पृथक हो जाओगे -- मर जाओगे ।
१०३. तए णं से कामदेवे समणोवासए तेणं देवेणं हत्थि-रूवेणं एवं वुत्ते समाणे, अभी जाव' बिहरइ ।
हाथी का रूप धारण किए हुए देव द्वारा यों कहे जाने पर भी श्रमणोपासक कामदेव निर्भय भाव से उपासना-रत रहा।

He retreated slowly, weary and dejected. He left the food-hall and, upon leaving, abandoned the form of the demon created by divine illusion. Having done so, he assumed the form of a gigantic elephant born of divine illusion. The elephant was well-built, with seven limbs (four legs, trunk, genitals, and tail). His body was beautiful and well-proportioned. He was upright and high in the front, and bent like a pig in the back. His belly was tight like a goat's. His lower lip and trunk were long. The teeth protruding from his mouth were white and bright like the half-opened bud of a betel nut. They were encased in gold, meaning they were covered with a golden sheath. The front part of his trunk was beautifully curved like a drawn bow. His feet were complete, well-nourished, and flat like a tortoise's. He had twenty nails. His tail was beautiful, close to his body, and of appropriate length and shape. The elephant was intoxicated with madness. He roared like a cloud. His speed was capable of conquering the speed of mind and wind.

When the demon, having assumed the form of an elephant, reached the food-hall where the ascetic Kamadeva was, he spoke to him in the same way as the demon before: "O Kamadeva! O ascetic! If you do not abandon your vows (of conduct, vows, restraint, renunciation, and fasting), if you do not break them, then today I will seize you with my trunk. I will take you out of the food-hall. I will lift you up into the sky. I will throw you down and crush you with my sharp, club-like teeth. I will trample you three times with my feet on the earth, so that you will be tormented by great pain and anguish, and you will be separated from life prematurely, you will die."
