प्राकृत-सूक्तरत्नमाला ।
Beings, being cruel do deeds while dancing, playing (i. e. easily); but piteously cry in great misery when they have to suffer the effect of those past deeds afterwards.
धारिजइ जलनिहीवि कल्लोलोत्थंभि-सत्त-कुल-सेलो। न हु अन्न-जम्म-निम्मिअ-सुहासुहो कम्म-परिणामो॥१२७॥ धार्यते जलनिधिरपि कल्लोलोत्तम्भिसप्तकुलशैलः। न त्वन्यजन्मनिर्मितशुभाशुभः कर्मपरिणामः ॥ १२७ ॥
A man may hold back the ocean surrounded by seven kula ( mountains ) on which the waves incessently break; but none cau avoid ( lit ; hold back) the consequences of good or evil deeds performed in another birth.
धम्मेण कुल-प्पसूई धम्मेण दिव्व-रूव-संपत्ती। धम्मेण धण-समिद्धी धम्मेण सुवित्थडा कित्ती ॥ १२८ ।। धर्मेण कुलप्रसूतिधर्मेण दिव्यरूपसंपत्तिः। धर्मेण धनसमृद्धिधर्मेण सुविस्तृता कीर्तिः ॥ १२८ ॥
Religion (religious merit acquired in a previous birth ) is the cause of birth in a good family, excellent beauty ( lit : excellence of heavenly beauty ), immense wealth and widespread fame.
