५. तुमंसि नाम सच्चेव जं उद्दवेयव्वं ति मन्नसि 1. One who you think should be hit is none else but you. 2. One who you think should be governed is none else but
you.
3. One who you think should be tortured is none else but you. 4. One who you think should be enslaved is none else but you. 5. One who you think should be killed is none else but you.
Lord Mahavira was the propounder of the doctrine that all souls are equal. The purport of this statement is to establish that nobody is inferior to anybody else.
Lord Mahavira and Lord Buddha not only gave the code of conduct for monks and nuns but also for lay-followers. Existence of a person is unimaginable without essential violence related to his basic needs. But, with the minimization of desires one can minimize violent activities.
The peace-seeker can follow simply the humane code of conduct. i. e.
1. I will not willfully kill any innocent creature. 2. I will not indulge in avoidable violence. 3. I will not attack.
4. I will not behave cruelly towards any creature and human being.
5. I will set limit to personal acquisition and so on.
These vows provide foundation of world peace. If mankind is to survive and to maintain its existence, it is to follow the path of self-control. Let us declare peace instead of war. Let there be celebration of awareness and cosmological concord at the universal level. We cannot find a way for world-peace except through self-control and Lumbini is giving the message of self-control since the ages.
