सचित्र उत्तराध्ययन सूत्र
All these birds and animals, who are desirous of happiness, why these are kept in cages and enclosures. (16)
द्वाविंश अध्ययन
अह सारही तओ भणइ, एए भद्दा उ पाणिणो तुझं विवाहकज्जमि, भोयावेउं बहुं जणं ॥१७॥
तब सारथी ने कहा- ये सभी भद्र प्राणी आपके विवाह कार्य में आये हुए बहुत से लोगों (मांसभोजियों) को खिलाने के लिये पकड़े गये हैं ||१७||
Charioteer (elephant driver) said-All these gentle (innocent ) beings are caught to be eaten by many flesh-eaters who are accompanied in your marriage procession. (17)
सोऊण तस्स वयणं, बहुपाणि-विणासणं । चिन्तेइ से महापन्ने, साणुक्कोसे जिएहि उ ॥ १८ ॥
बहुत से प्राणियों के विनाश संबंधी सारथी कथन को सुनकर महाप्रज्ञ अरिष्टनेमि अपने मन में इस प्रकार विचार करते हैं - ॥१८॥

Having heard these words of charioteer (elephant driver) most wise Aristanemi thinks in his mind like thus-(18)
जमज्झ कारणा एए, हम्मिहिंति बहू जिया । न मे एयं तु निस्सेसं, परलोगे भविस्सई ॥१९॥
यदि मेरे कारण इन बहुत से प्राणियों का वध किया जाता है तो यह मेरे लिए परलोक में श्रेयस्कर ( उचित ) नहीं होगा ॥ १९॥
It will not be proper for my other world that these living beings are killed for my sake. (19)
सो
कुण्डलाण जुयलं, सुत्तगं च महायसो । आभरणाणि य सव्वाणि, सारहिस्स पणामए ॥२०॥
इसलिए उन महायशस्वी ने कुण्डल युगल, सूत्रक, तथा अन्य सभी आभूषण उतारकर सारथी को दे दिये ॥२०॥

Then that most glorious (Aristanemi) put off all his ornaments-ear-rings, thread of waist etc., and gave to the charioteer - the elephant driver. (20)
मणपरिणामे य कए, देवा य जहोइयं समोइण्णा । सव्वड्ढीए सपरिसा, निक्खमणं तस्स काउं जे ॥२१॥
हृदय में (दीक्षा के) परिणाम उत्पन्न होते ही उनके यथोचित अभिनिष्क्रमण के लिए देवतागण अपनी ऋद्धि और परिषद के साथ वहाँ उपस्थित हो गये ॥ २१ ॥
As the firm resolution for consecration fill his head and heart, the gods descended from heaven, according the established custom, to celebrate, with great pomp together with their retinue, the event of his consecration. (21)
