चतुर्दश अध्ययन [१६२
पियपुत्तगा दोन्नि वि माहणस्स, सकम्मसीलस्स पुरोहियस्स ।
सरित्तु पोराणिय तत्थ जाइं, तहा सुचिण्णं तव-संजमं च ॥५॥ यज्ञ-याग आदि अपने कर्म में निरत भृगु पुरोहित के उन दोनों प्रिय पुत्रों को अपने पिछले जन्म तथा उसमें सुआचरित तप-संयम का स्मरण हो आया ॥५॥
Indulged in his own activities of sacrifices Bhrgu Purohita's both sons remembered their former life and well-practised penance and self-control in that life. (5)
ते कामभोगेसु असज्जमाणा, माणुस्सएसुं जे यावि दिव्वा ।
मोक्खाभिकंखी अभिजायसड्ढा, तायं उवागम्म इमं उदाहु ॥६॥ मानुषिक तथा दिव्य कामभोगों में अनासक्त, एक मात्र मोक्ष प्राप्ति के इच्छुक, श्रद्धा संपन्न दोनों पुरोहित-पुत्र पिता के पास आकर कहने लगे ॥६॥
Averse to human and divine pleasures, desirous to obtain only salvation, full of faith both purohita-sons came to his father and spoke these words-(6)
असासयं दठ्ठ इमं विहारं, बहुअन्तरायं न य दीहमाउं ।
तम्हा गिहंसि न रइं लहामो, आमन्तयामो चरिस्सामु मोणं ॥७॥ (पुत्र) यह मनुष्य जन्म अनित्य है, इसमें बहुत-सी बाधाएँ हैं, आयु भी दीर्घ नहीं है; इस कारण घर में हमें कोई रुचि नहीं है। मुनिधर्म-पालन हेतु आपकी अनुमति चाहते हैं ॥७॥
(Sons) This human life is transient, many hindrances are in it, this life lasts not long, therefore we have no interest in domestic life. We wish your consent to practise monk order. (7)
अह तायगो तत्थ मुणीण तेसिं, तवस्स वाघायकरं वयासी ।
इमं वयं वेयविओ वयन्ति, जहा न होई असुयाण लोगो ॥८॥ (पुरोहित) पुत्रों के यह वचन सुनकर पिता ने उनको रोकने का प्रयास किया, कहा-पुत्रो ! वेद के ज्ञाताओं का यह कथन है कि पुत्रहीन को सद्गति प्राप्त नहीं होती ॥८॥
(Purohita) Having heard these words of sons the father (Bhrgu Purohita) tried to resist them, he spoke-Dear sons ! Those versed in the Vedas, say that who has no sons he can not get good existence. (8)
अहिज्ज वेए परिविस्स विप्पे, पुत्ते पडिट्ठप्प गिहंसि जाया !
भोच्चाण भोए सह इत्थियाहिं, आरण्णगा होह मुणी पसत्था ॥९॥ अतः पहले वेदों का अध्ययन करो, विप्रों को भोजन दो, विवाह करके स्त्रियों के साथ भोग भोगोतत्पश्चात् पुत्रों को घर का भार देकर अरण्यवासी श्रेष्ठ मुनि बन जाना ॥९॥
Therefore first of all study Vedas, feed Brāhmaṇas, enjoy pleasures with women wedding them, place your sons as the head of home, thereafter become the praise-worthy hermitage. (9)
