२९] द्वादश अध्ययन
सचित्र उत्तराध्ययन सूत्र
बारसमं अज्झयणं : हरिएसिज्जं द्वादश अध्ययन : हरिकेशीय
सोवागकुलसंभूओ, हरिएसबलो नाम, आसि भिक्खू जिइन्दिओ ॥ १ ॥
गुणुत्तरधरो मुणी ।
हरिकेशबल नामक मुनि श्वपाक - चाण्डाल कुल में उत्पन्न हुए थे किन्तु वे क्षमा आदि उत्तम गुणों को धारण करने वाले जितेन्द्रिय भिक्षु थे ॥१॥
Harikeśabala was born in śvapaka-caṇḍāla clan; but he was a superior mendicant possessing great virtues of forgiveness etc. (1)
इरि-एसण-भासाए,
य ।
उच्चार- र समिईसु जओ आयाणनिक्खेवे, संजओ सुसमाहिओ ॥२॥
ईर्ष्या, भाषा, एषणा, उच्चार-प्रम्नवण- खेल्ल जल्ल परिष्ठापनिका एवं आदान-निक्षेपण - इन पाँच समितियों में यतनाशील, सुसमाधिस्थ एवं संयत थे ॥२॥
He was circumspect by five circumspections (1) movement, (2) speech (language) (3) seeking for necessities ( 4 ) excretion (5) put and take; contemplated and self-controlled. (2)
मणगुत्तो वयगुत्तो,
कायगुत्तो जिइन्दिओ । भिक्खट्ठा बम्भ - इज्जमि, जन्नवाडं उवट्ठिओ ॥३॥
मन-वचन-काय गुप्तियों से गुप्त, इन्द्रियविजयी मुनि हरिकेशबल एक दिन भिक्षा हेतु ब्राह्मणों द्वारा संपादित यज्ञ मंडप में पहुँचे ॥३॥
He was restrained by three restraints viz. ( 1 ) restraint of mind (2) of speach (3) of body; and subdued his senses-monk Harikeśabala wandering for alms perchance approached the enclosure-the canopy for sacrifice, where the brahamaņas were performing the sacrificerituals. (3)

तं पासिऊणमेज्जन्तं तवेण परिसोसियं । पन्तोवहिउवगरणं, उवहसन्ति अणारिया ॥४॥
तप से कृश हुए शरीर वाले तथा मलिन एवं जीर्ण उपकरण वाले मुनि को यज्ञ मंडप की ओर आते खकर अनार्य-अशिष्ट व्यक्ति उनका उपहास करने लगे ॥४॥
As the brahamaņas saw that a monk is coming towards their enclosure, stricken with tenance, clothed in rags and dirty bodied, the uncivil ruffians began to laugh at him. (4)
जाईमयपडिथद्धा, हिंसगा अजिइन्दिया । अबम्भचारिणो बाला, इमं वयणमब्बवी - ॥५॥
