चमत्कारी अम्बड़ परिव्राजक गणधर इन्द्रभूति भगवान महावीर से पूछते हैं-भन्ते ! बहुत से लोग ऐसा कहते हैं कि अम्बड़ परिव्राजक कांपिल्यपुर नगर में एक ही समय में एक साथ सौ घरों में भोजन करता हुआ देखा जाता है ! इसमें क्या रहस्य है ? ___भगवान ने उत्तर में कहा-गौतम ! वस्तुस्थिति यह है कि अम्बड़ परिव्राजक प्रकृति से भद्र, सौम्य एवं शान्त स्वभाव का है। वह विनयशील है, गुरुजनों का आज्ञा पालक है तथा उसके क्रोध-मान-मायालोभ-चारों कषाय बहुत उपशान्त है। उसने बेले-बेले (दो-दो दिनों का) का उपवास करते हुए अपनी भुजाएँ ऊँची उठाकर सूरज के सामने मुँह किये आतापना ली है। उस तप अनुष्ठान से शुभ परिणाम व उत्तम अध्यवसायों के कारण उसने वीर्यलब्धि (विशेष शक्ति/प्रतीक श्वेत प्रकाश देखें) वैक्रिय लब्धि (अनेक रूप बनाने की क्षमता/नीला प्रकाश देखें) तथा अवधिज्ञान लब्धि (अतीन्द्रिय पदार्थ को सीधे आत्मा द्वारा जानने की योग्यता/पीला प्रकाश) प्राप्त की है। इस कारण वह जनता को विस्मित चकित करने की भावना से इन लब्धियों के ऐसा करने में समर्थ है।

MIRACULOUS AMBAD PARIVRAJAK Ganadhar Indrabhuti asked Bhagavan-"Bhante ! Many a people say that Ambad Parivrajak is seen taking his food from a hundred households at the same time in Kampilyapur city. Bhante ! How is it so ?
Bhagavan replied—Gautam ! This Ambad Parivrajak is simple and calm by nature. He obeys his seniors and is modest. The intensity of his anger, conceit, deceit, and greed has become minimum. He has undergone continued rigorous austerities by enduring heat from scorched earth facing the sun with raised arms and all along observing a series of two day fasts. As a consequence of this spiritual purity he has acquired po of potency (virya labdhi illustrated by white light), power of acquiring desired form (vaikriya labdhi illustrated by blue light), and power of extrasensory perception of the physical dimension (avadhi-jnana illustrated by yellow light). In order to astonish masses he uses these special powers and is capable of doing as rumoured.
