संसार समुद्र : संयम पोत यह संसार एक समुद्र है। जन्म-जरा-मृत्यु रूप छलछलाता जल भरा है। संयोग-वियोग की लहरें उठ रही हैं। शोक-लोभ की कल-कल ध्वनियों से यह कोलाहलमय बना है। भय, विषाद, शोक, मिथ्यात्व रूपी पर्वत चट्टानें व शिलाएँ बीच-बीच में अवरोधक बनी हैं। इच्छाओं-तृष्णाओं के वायुवेग से तरंगे ऊपर
आकाश तक उछल रही हैं। इसमें मोह के विशाल भँवर जाल-आवर्त उठ रहे हैं। अज्ञान-रूप मगरमच्छ हैं। अनुपशांत इन्द्रिय समूह रूप मत्स्य हैं। आर्त-रौद्र ध्यान रूप भयंकर जल जीव इसमें उछल रहे हैं।
इस समुद्र में, संयम रूपी जहाज को धैर्य व सहिष्णुता के रस्सों से लंगर डालकर उसे बाँध रखा है। संवर और वैराग्य रूप उसके मस्तूल हैं। ज्ञान रूपी निर्मल श्वेत पाल तना है। विशुद्ध सम्यक्त्व रूप कर्णधार है। वीतराग वाणी के आराधक श्रमण सार्थवाह हैं और ज्ञान-दर्शन-व्रत-यतना-निर्जरा रूप माल भरा हुआ है। ये संयमी श्रमण इस संयम रूपी जहाज में बैठकर सिद्धि-मुक्ति रूपी बन्दरगाह की तरफ नाव को खेते हुए बढ़ते जा रहे हैं।
-सूत्र ३२ OCEAN OF MUNDANE EXISTENCE :
SHIP OF ASCETIC-DISCIPLINE This world is an ocean overflowing with the turbulent water body that is the misery of birth, dotage, and death. Waves in the form of meeting and separation are emerging. That sea echoes with the thundering sounds of grief and greed. Hills, rocks and boulders of fear, sorrow, grief and unrighteousness block the path. Giant waves of desires and cravings are rising sky high. Large vortexes of fondness are rising. This sea is infested with crocodiles of ignorance and large fishes of agitated sense organs as well as leaping ferocious aquatic beings in the form of tormented and agitated thoughts.
In this sea floats the stout ship of ascetic-discipline held fast with the rope of patience and tolerance. It is fitted with the masts of samvar and detachment. It has pure white sails of knowledge. Sublime righteousness is its navigator. The Shraman followers of the sermon of the Vitarag are the seafarers. The ship is loaded with the merchandise of knowledge, perception/faith, great vows, alertness, and shedding of karmas. These disciplined ascetics aboard this ship of ascetic-discipline are advancing towards the port of Siddha state.
