टीका-इस सूत्र में आठवीं प्रतिमा का विषय वर्णन किया गया है । इस प्रतिमा में भी जितनी पहली प्रतिमाओं की विधि वर्णन की गई है उसका पालन करते हुए भिक्षु को । पहली सात रात और दिन की प्रतिमा ग्रहण करनी होती है । किन्तु साथ ही में उसको सात दिन पर्यन्त अपानक उपवास करना पड़ता है अर्थात् 'चौविहार एकान्तर तप करना चाहिए और नगर या राजधानी के बाहर जाकर उत्तानासन (आकाश की ओर मुख करने) ! पार्वासन (एक पार्श्व के आधार लेटने), अथवा निषद्यासन (सम पाद रख कर बैठने) से । ध्यान लगाकर समय व्यतीत करना चाहिए । यदि वहां उसको कोई देव, मानुष या | तिर्यग्योनि सम्बन्धी उपसर्ग (विघ्न) आएँ ता उसे ध्यान से स्खलित या पति नहीं होना । चाहिए । यदि उसको वहां मल-मूत्र आदि की शङ्का पैदा हो जाय तो उसे मल-मूत्रादि को रोकना नहीं चाहिए, प्रत्युत किसी पहले ढूंढ़े हुए स्थान पर उनका उत्सर्ग करना चाहिए ! । वहां से आकर फिर अपने ध्यान में लग जाना चाहिए । इसी का नाम 'पहली सात दिन । की भिक्षु प्रतिमा' है । इसका सूत्रों के अनुसार पूर्ववत् आराधन किया जाता है ।
___ अब यह प्रश्न उपस्थित होता है कि यहां क्रमानुसार इस प्रतिमा का नाम 'आठवीं । प्रतिमा होना चाहिए था, फिर यहां उसके स्थान पर 'प्रथमा' क्यों दिया गया है ? उत्तर । में कहा जाता है कि पहली सात प्रतिमाओं की सात तक संख्या दत्तियों के अनुसार दी गई है, किन्तु इस प्रतिमा में दत्तियों की संख्या न होने के कारण इसको 'प्रथमा' के नाम ! से लिखा गया है । इसी प्रकार (नौवीं) को 'द्वितीया' और 'दशवीं' को 'तृतीया' की संज्ञा दी गई है । अभिग्रह विशेष होने के कारण संज्ञाओं में भी विशेषता कर दी गई है । किन्तु ध्यान रहे कि दत्तियों के अतिरिक्त पहली सात प्रतिमाओं के नियम इन में भी पालन । करने पड़ते हैं ।
अब सूत्रकार नौवीं और दशवी प्रतिमा के विषय में कहते हैं:
एवं दोच्चा सत्त-राइंदिया यावि । नवरं दंडायइयस्य वा लगडसाइस्स वा उक्कुडुयस्स वा ठाणं ठाइत्तए सेसं तं चेव जाव अणुपालित्ता भवइ ।।६।। एवं तच्चा सत्त-राइंदिया यावि । नवरं गोदोहियाए वा वीरासणियस्स वा अंब-खुज्जस्स वा ठाणं ठाइत्तए तं चेव जाव अणुपालित्ता भवइ ।।१०।।

**Commentary:** This sutra describes the eighth pratima. The bhikshu must follow the same procedures as in the first seven pratima. He must observe the pratima for seven nights and days.
