बहिया–बाहिर उत्तर-पुरच्छिमे-उत्तर-पूर्व दिसी-भाए-दिग्भाग में दूति-पलासए-दूतिपलाशक णाम-नाम वाला चेइए-व्यन्तरायतन होत्था-था चेइए-चैत्य का वण्णओ-वर्णन भाणियब्वो-कहना चाहिए जियसत्तु राया-जितशत्रु राजा और तस्स-उसकी धारणी-धारणी नाम-नाम वाली देवी-देवी थी एवं-इस प्रकार सव्वं-सब समोसरणं-समवसरण भाणियव्वं-कहना चाहिए जाव-यावत् पुढवी-सिलापट्टए-पृथिवी-शिलापट्टक पर सामी-भगवान् समोसढे-विराजमान हुए तब नगर की परिसा-परिवद् निग्गया-निकली। धम्मो कहिओ-धर्म कथन किया अर्थात् धर्मोपदेश दिया तब परिसा-परिषत् धर्मकथा सुनकर पडिगया-नगर की ओर चली गई।
मूलार्थ-उस काल और उस समय में बाणिजग्राम नगर बसता था । उस नगर के बाहर ईशान कोण में दूतिपलाशक नाम वाला एक उद्यान था । वहां जितशत्रु नाम का राजा राज्य करता था । उसकी धारणी नाम वाली देवी थी । भगवान् उस चैत्य (उद्यान) में एक पृथिवी के शिलापट्ट पर विराजमान हो गये । वहां नगर की परिषद् (श्री भगवान् के मुखारविन्द से कथा श्रवण करने के लिए) उपस्थित हुई । तब श्री भगवान् ने उस परिषद् को धर्मोपदेश किया और (उससे प्रसन्न होकर जनता भगवान् का यशोगान करती हुई) नगर को वापिस चली गई ।
टीका-यह सूत्र उपोद्घात रूप है । इस उपोद्घात का विस्तृत वर्णन औपपातिक सूत्र के आरम्भ में किया गया है । वहां इस (उपोद्घात) को पांच अंशों में विभक्त कर दिया गया है । जैसे-नगर वर्णन, नगर के बाहर के चैत्य (यक्षायतन और उद्यान) का वर्णन, राजा और रानी का वर्णन, श्री श्रमण भगवान् स्वामी के चैत्य में विराजमान होने का वर्णन और राजा के श्री श्रमण भगवान् से धर्मोपदेश सुनने का वर्णन । किञ्च इन सब के अतिरिक्त राजा की गमन यात्रा का वर्णन अत्यन्त समारोह और महोत्सव के साथ किया गया है । साथ ही प्रसङ्गवशात् राजा की दिनचर्या और उसके विविध व्यायाम
और व्यायाम-शाला तथा स्नानादि क्रियाओं का भी दिग्दर्शन कराया गया है । श्री भगवान कृत धर्मोपदेश का भी सुचारू रूप से वर्णन किया गया है । जो इस विषय से विशेष आकर्षित हों या इसकी जिज्ञासा रखते हों उनको उक्त विषयों का औपपातिक सूत्र से ही ज्ञान करना चाहिए । यहां पर तो केवल संक्षेप रूप में ही इसका वर्णन किया

Bahiya - Outside, in the north-north-east direction, in the north-east quadrant, there should be a cheiya-vyantarayatan called Dooti-Palasa, Dooti-Palashak.
