स्वाध्याय
आत्मा स्वाध्यायद्वारा आत्मविकास कर सकता है, परन्तु स्वाध्याय विधिपूर्वक होना चाहिए । यदि विधिशून्य. स्वाध्याय किया जाएगा, तो वह आत्माविकास करने में समर्थ नहीं हो सकेगा, क्योंकि विधिपूर्वक किया हुआ स्वाध्याय ही वास्तविक स्वाध्याय है ।
स्वाध्याय का फल अब प्रश्न यह उपस्थित होता है कि स्वाध्याय करने से किस फल की प्राप्ति होती है । इसका उत्तर यह है कि
"सज्झाएणं भंते ! जीवे कि जणयइ" "सज्झाएणं नाणावरणिज्जं कम्म खवेइ
उत्तराध्ययन अ० २६ सू० १८ अर्थात् हे भगवन् ! स्वाध्याय करने से किस फल की प्राप्ति होती है ? भगवान् कहते हैं कि-हे शिष्य ! स्वाध्याय करने से ज्ञानावरणीय कर्म क्षीण हो जाते हैं । जब ज्ञानावरणीय कर्म ही क्षीण हो गए, तो आत्मविकास स्वयमेव हो जायगा, जिससे कि आत्मा अपने स्वरूप में प्रविष्ट हो जाने के कारण सब दुःखों से छूट जायगा । क्योंकि"सज्झाए वा सव्वदुक्खविमोक्खणे"
उत्त० अ० २६ गा० १० अर्थात् स्वाध्याय सब दुःखों से विमुक्त करने वाला है ।
