इस प्रकार पाँचों इन्द्रियों के संवर से सम्पन्न और मन, वचन, काय से गुप्त होकर ही साधु को धर्म का आचरण करना चाहिए। उत्तराध्ययनसूत्र के 32वें अध्ययन में इस विषय में बहुत ही सुन्दरतापूर्वक कहा गया एक ही गाथा में इसका निचोड़
जे सद्द-रूव-रस-गंधमागए, फासे य संपप्प मणुण्ण-पावए।
गेही पओसं न करेज पंडिए, स होति दंते विरए अकिंचणे॥ अर्थात्-मनोज्ञ और अमनोज्ञ शब्द, रूप, रस, गन्ध और स्पर्श के प्राप्त होने पर जो पण्डित पुरुष राग और ! द्वेष नहीं करता, वही इन्द्रियों का दमनकर्ता, विरत और अपरिग्रही कहलाता है।
यहाँ एक महत्वपूर्ण बात यह ध्यान में रखनी चाहिए कि राग और द्वेष आभ्यन्तर परिग्रह हैं-एकान्तरूप से ! मुख्य परिग्रह हैं। अतएव इन्हीं को लक्ष्य में रखकर अपरिग्रह व्रत की भावनाएँ प्रतिपादित की गई हैं।
॥पंचम संवरद्वार समाप्त॥ Elaboration For the proper observation of the great vow of i Aparigraha (non-possession or non-covetousness) and in order to guide ! the aspirant to practice and acquire the right attitude at the time of experiencing the subjects of five sense organs, five sentiments of the gate; of Samwar have been discussed in detail in the preceding aphorisms. They are - (1) Samwar of the sense organ of hearing, (2) Samwar of the ! sense organ of seeing, (3) Samwar of the sense organ of smell, (4) Samwar of the sense organ of taste, and (5) Samwar of the sense organ of touch. ___Sound, appearance, smell, taste and touch are the subjects of these : sense organs. Based on experience each one of these subjects is of two kinds - (1) pleasant and (2) unpleasant. Each sense organ deals with its y respective subject. At that time the experience is a general one. But y simultaneously it creates a feeling of pleasure or otherwise in the soul. 4 That subject which is to the liking is called pleasant and that which is not to the liking is called unpleasant.
(1) Attitude of Shrotrendriya Samvar-When a monk, who has ! completely abandoned inner and outer covetousness (Parigraha), indulges in any activity, a variety of sounds strike his ears. Many of these are pleasant to the ears and many unpleasant. All these sounds y are sources of attachment and aversion that push the life of the monk 4 into the void of internal covetousness. That is the reason the author has, in light of this attitude of Shrotrendriya Samvar (blocking of the inflow of karmas through indulgence of the sense organ of hearing), listed some
