85555555555555555555555555555555555 卐 (सेवन करते हैं और करेंगे)। ये मोक्ष में जाने का सम्यक् मार्ग हैं, और सुगति में पहुँचाने वाले हैं। ऐसे इन पाँच महाव्रत रूप संवरद्वार का कथन भगवान महावीर ने किया है।
106. Shri Sudharma Swami said to his disciple Jambu Swami, 'O Jambu ! The five great vows namely non-violence and other, which have
been mentioned earlier are beneficial for the entire world. The welfare of Hi the universe is in their practice. They have been narrated in the
scriptures. These vows are in the nature of austerities and self-restraint. They are never devoid of austerities and restraint. They contain most important code of conduct. Most prominent among them are truth and straight forwardness or non-crookedness. They (the great vows) protect the living beings from wandering in hellish, animal, human and celestial state of existence. In other words they lead one to salvation. All the Tirthankars have stressed upon them in their teachings. They destroy the Karmic dust attached to the soul. They bring an end to hundreds of wanderings in births and deaths. These vows save the living beings from hundreds of troubles and provide hundreds of pleasures. The courageous, noble and good natured persons have practiced thein (practice them and shall practice). They are the true path leading to liberation. Bhagavan Mahavir has narrated them in detail.
विवेचन : संवरद्वारों को महाव्रत कहा गया है। किन्तु एक अपेक्षा से अणुव्रतों को भी संवर के अन्तर्गत माना है। श्रावकों के पालन करने योग्य व्रत अणुव्रत कहलाते हैं। अणुव्रतों में हिंसादि पापों का पूर्णतया त्याग
नहीं होता-एक मर्यादा रहती है किन्तु महाव्रत कृत, कारित और अनुमोदना रूप तीनों करणों से तथा मन, ॐ वचन और काय रूप तीनों योगों से पालन किये जाते हैं। अणुव्रतों की अपेक्षा महान् होने से इन्हें महाव्रत कहा गया है।
इन महाव्रतों से संवर और निर्जरा-दोनों की सिद्धि होती है, अर्थात् नवीन कर्मों का आना भी रुकता है __ और पूर्वबद्ध कर्मों की निर्जरा भी होती है। संयम संवर का और तप निर्जरा का कारण है। मुक्ति-प्राप्ति के लिए ॐ संवर और निर्जरा दोनों अपेक्षित हैं। इसी तथ्य को स्पष्ट करने के लिए इन्हें कर्म-रजविदारक कहा गया है। ___महाव्रतों को भवशतविनाशक भी कहा है, अर्थात् इनकी आराधना से बहुत से भवों-जन्म-मरणों का अन्त हो जाता है। इनकी आराधना से जीव दुःखों से बच जाता है और सुखों को प्राप्त करने में समर्थ होता है। ___ महाव्रतों या संवरों का वर्णन प्रत्येक महाव्रत की पाँच-पाँच भावनाओं सहित किया जायेगा। कारण यह है कि भावनाएँ एक प्रकार से व्रत का अंग हैं और उनका अनुसरण करने से व्रतों के पालन में सरलता होती है, सहायता मिलती है और व्रत में पूर्णता आ जाती है। भावनाओं की उपेक्षा करने से व्रत-पालन में बाधा आती है। अतएव व्रतधारी को व्रत की भावनाओं को भलीभाँति समझकर उनका यथावत् पालन करना चाहिए।
