ऊ से बनी चटाई या आसन, और (४) कम्बलकट-ऊन, सूत, रेशम या सन आदि के रेशों से बना बैठने
या बिछाने का वस्त्र। ज इसी प्रकार पुरुष भी चार प्रकार के होते हैं-(१) शुम्बकट समान, (२) विदलकट समान, (३) चर्मकट समान, और (४) कम्बलकट समान।
549. Cut (mattresses) are of four kinds—(1) shumb-cut (pine 卐 mattress)-mattress woven from pine-wood strip or grass, (2) vidal-cut
(bamboo mattress)-mattress made of thin bamboo sticks or cane, (3) charma-cut (leather mattress)-mattress made of leather strips
(4) kambal-cut (mattress made of yarn)-mattress made up of any type ___of yarn including wool, cotton, silk, hessian etc.
In the same way men are of four kinds-(1) like shumb-cut, (2) i vidal-cut, (3) like charma-cut and (4) like Kambal-cut.
विवेचन-शुम्बकट (खजूर या घास-निर्मित बैठने का आसन) अत्यल्प मूल्य वाला होता है, अतः ॐ उसमें रागभाव कम होता है। उसी प्रकार जिसका धन व पुत्रादि में राग या मोह अत्यल्प होता है, वह + पुरुष शुम्बकट के समान है। शुम्बकट की अपेक्षा विदलकट अधिक मूल्य वाला होता है, अतः उसमें 5
रागभाव अधिक होता है। विदलकट से चर्मकट और भी अधिक मूल्यवान होने से उसमें रागभाव भी 卐 और अधिक होता है। चर्मकट से कम्बलकट अधिक मूल्यवान होता है, अतः उसमें रागभाव भी अधिक 卐
होता है। इसी प्रकार पुत्रादि में अधिक, गाढ़ और गाढ़तम रागभाव वाले पुरुष को क्रमशः विदलकट, ॐ चर्मकट व कम्बलकट के समान कहा गया है। आवश्यक नियुक्ति टीका, पृ. ३८७ में प्रसंग है-गौतम के
स्वामी जब मोक्ष प्राप्ति के लिए अधीर हो गये तब भगवान ने कहा-गौतम ! तुम्हारा राग मेरे प्रति कम्बलकट जैसा अनेक जन्म-जन्मान्तरों से चलता आया प्रगाढ़ राग है।
Elaboration—There is minimum attachment for a pine mattress because it is very cheap. Therefore a person having least attachment for wealth or family is said to be like shumb-cut. As compared to a pine mattress a bamboo mattress is costly, thus it inspires more attachment. A leather mattress is costlier than a bamboo mattress, thus it inspires even more attachment. A yarn mattress is even more costly thana leather mattress, thus it inspires still greater attachment. Therefore this metaphor has been used to classify individuals according to the degree of attachment they have. In Avashyak Churni Tika we find a mention on p. 387—'When Gautam Swami became worried and impatient to attain liberation, Bhagavan Mahavir said-Gautam ! your attachment for me comes from many past births and is very intense like kambal-cut'.
