स्त्री के पक्ष में वामा का अर्थ-प्रतिकूल स्वभाव वाली और वामावर्ता का अर्थ - विपरीत आचरण 5 5 वाली समझना चाहिए। धुआँ भी दो प्रकार का होता है - एक दुर्गंधित पदार्थ का, एक सुगन्धित पदार्थ का। दुर्गन्धित धूम - शिखा - वामावर्ता तथा सुगन्धित धूम - शिखा - दक्षिणावर्ता समझना चाहिए।

सूत्र २७२ - वात - मण्डलिका - वायु का मंडलाकार उठने वाला गोला । बाईं ओर उठने वाली वात- मण्डलिका धन-जन को हानि पहुँचाने वाली अशुभ सूचक होती है और दक्षिणावर्ता5 आरोग्यवर्धक, सुखद मानी जाती है। स्त्री के पक्ष में वामा का अर्थ है - कुटिल व दुष्ट स्वभाव वाली तथा वामावर्ता का अर्थ है - स्वैराचारिणी । दक्षिणा का भाव है-कला- - चातुर्य संपन्न व दक्षिणावर्ता - सुशीला । वात- मण्डलिका की तरह स्त्री के पक्ष में भी चार भंग बनते हैं । (हिन्दी टीका, पृ. ८१३)

Elaboration – (270.) Dhoom-shikhas-tongues of rising smoke are of two kinds-(1) vama or that which turns left, and (2) dakshina or that which turns right. The tongue of smoke that turns left is believed to be inauspicious, booster of disease and destroyer of life and one that turns
right is believed to be auspicious and healing.

सूत्र २७१ - अग्नि - शिखा - दो प्रकार की होती हैं - चिता आदि से उठी अग्नि-शिखा वामा तथा हवन कुण्ड आदि पवित्र स्थानों से उठी दक्षिणा कही जाती है। अग्नि-शिखा ज्योति रूप में प्रकाश भी देती है और ज्वाला रूप में ताप देती है, जलाती भी है। इसी प्रकार स्त्री के पक्ष में अग्नि-शिखा की तुलना की गई है, जो स्त्री अपने स्वभाव से संतापदायिनी होती है वह वामा तथा आचरण में कुल को जलाने वाली है, वह वामावर्ता । जो अपने उदात्त स्वभाव के कारण दूसरों को प्रकाश देती है वह दक्षिणा और श्रेष्ठ आचरण से जगत् का कल्याण करती है वह दक्षिणावर्ता ।

In context of woman vama means one with bad nature and vamavarti
means with bad behaviour. Smoke is also of two kinds, one with bad
smell and another with good smell. Foul smelling smoke is vamavarti and fragrant smoke is dakshinavarti.
(271.) Agnishikha-tongue of flame is of two kinds-that rising out of
a funeral pyre is vama and that rising out of a sacrificial pyre and other
pious places is dakshina. A tongue of flame is a source of light (jyoti) and also a source of heat (jvala) that burns too. In context of woman the 卐 classification is based on these qualities. A woman who causes

discomfort to the family by her nature is called vama and one who tortures the family with her despicable conduct is called vamavarta. A woman who enlightens others with her generous nature is dakshina and one who benefits people by her ideal conduct is dakshinavarta.
