Elaboration-Acharya is the head of the ascetic organization, the formal initiator guru and preceptor who explains the meaning of the Agams. Upadhyaya is the preceptor who teaches the text of Agams. Pravartak is responsible for the management of various ascetic duties like care of ascetics as well as austerities to be observed. The senior ascetics who affirm juniors in asceticdiscipline are called sthavir. Group leaders are called gani. The chief disciples of a Tirthankar are called ganadhar. Ascetics who go around in a group from one village and city to another with permission of the acharya and for collecting alms like garb and bowls for the benefit of the group are called ganavachhedak.

२४७. तओ ठाणाई देवे पीहेज्जा, तं जहा - माणुस्सगं भवं, आरिए खेत्ते जम्मं, सुकुलपच्चायातिं ।
२४७. देवता तीन स्थानों की इच्छा रखते हैं - (१) मनुष्य भव, (२) आर्य क्षेत्र में जन्म, और (३) सुकुल ( उत्तम धार्मिक कुल ) में उत्पन्न होना ।
247. Devs (divine beings) have desire for three places – ( 1 ) of manushya bhava (birth as a human beings), (2) of being born in Arya Kshetra (the land of Aryas), and (3) of being born in a sukul (noble religious family).
२४८. तिहिं ठाणेहिं देवे परितप्पेज्जा, तं जहा
(१) अहो ! णं मए संते बले संते वीरिए संते पुरिसक्कार - परक्कमे खेमंसि सुभिक्खंसि आयरिय-उवज्झाएहिं विज्जमाणेहिं कल्लसरीरेणं णो बहुए सुए अहीए ।
(२) अहो ! णं मए इहलोगपडिबद्धेणं परलोगपरंमुहेणं विसयतिसिएणं णो दीहे सामण्णपरियाए अणुपालिते ।
(३) अहो ! णं मए इड्डि - रस - साय - गरुएणं भोगासंसगिद्धेणं णो विसुद्धे चरित्ते फासिते । इच्चेतेहिं तिहिं ठाणेहिं देवे परितप्पेज्जा ।
२४८. तीन कारणों से देवता पश्चात्ताप करता है
(१) अहो ! मैंने बल, वीर्य, पुरुषकार, पराक्रम, क्षेम - ( सब अनुकूलताएँ) सुभिक्ष, आचार्य और उपाध्याय की उपस्थिति तथा नीरोग शरीर के होते हुए भी श्रुतज्ञान का पर्याप्त अध्ययन नहीं किया।
(२) अहो ! मैंने इस लोक-सम्बन्धी विषयों - ( मान-सन्मान) की तृष्णा फँसकर तथा परलोक से पराङ्मुख होकर, दीर्घकाल तक श्रमण धर्म का पालन नहीं किया।
