नमस्कार कर इस प्रकार बोले-“देवानुप्रिय ! हम इस अर्थ को नहीं जान रहे हैं, नहीं देख रहे हैं। यदि
देवानुप्रिय को इस अर्थ का परिकथन प्रवचन करने (बताने) में कष्ट न हो, तो हम आप देवानुप्रिय से 卐 इसे जानने की इच्छा रखते हैं।"
___“आर्यो !'' श्रमण भगवान महावीर ने गौतम आदि श्रमण निर्ग्रन्थों को सम्बोधित कर कहा-“जीव + दुःख से भय खाते हैं।"
(प्रश्न) तो भगवन् ! दुःख किसके द्वारा उत्पन्न किया गया है ? (उत्तर) जीवों के द्वारा, अपने प्रमाद 卐 से उत्पन्न किया गया है।
(प्रश्न) तो भगवन् ! दुःखों का वेदन (क्षय) कैसे किया जाता है ? (उत्तर) जीवों के द्वारा, अपने ही फ़ अप्रमाद से किया जाता है।
220. Shraman Bhagavan Mahavir called Gautam and other shraman 45 nirgranths (ascetics) and asked—“Long lived Shramans ! What is it that jivas (beings) are afraid of ?”
Gautam and other shraman nirgranths approached Bhagavan Mahavir and paid homage and obeisance. After paying homage and
obeisance they submitted-“Beloved of gods ! We neither know nor see 卐 this. Beloved of gods! If it is not inconvenient for you to explain this, we 卐 wish to know it from you.”
“Aryas !” Shraman Bhagavan Mahavir addressed Gautam and other shraman nirgranths--"Beings are afraid of misery.”
(Question) Bhagavan ! Who has created misery ? (Answer) It has been created by beings in their pramad (stupor).
(Question) Bhagavan ! How can we end miseries ? (Answer) Miseries are brought to an end by beings through their own apramad (non-stupor or alertness).
विवेचन-यहाँ प्रमाद का अर्थ आलस्य नहीं किन्तु आचार्य अभयदेवसूरि ने प्रमाद के आठ अर्थ बताये हैं-(१) अज्ञान, (२) संशय, (३) मिथ्याज्ञान, (४) राग, (५) द्वेष, (६) मतिभ्रंश, (७) धर्म का आचरण न करना, धर्म में अनादर या अनुत्साह, और (८) योगों की अशुभ प्रवृत्ति, अकुशल योग। (संस्कृत टीका, पृ. २२०)
