) pieces of sweet, etc.) with a request-“O long-lived Shraman ! Out of these two units please consume one yourself and give the other to some senior ascetic (sthavir).” The ascetic should accept the units and (on : returning to his place of stay) look for some senior ascetic. If he finds one he should at once give one unit to him. However, if he does not find a senior ascetic he should neither consume that extra unit himself nor give it to any other ascetic. Instead he should find some secluded, safe, germfree and appropriate spot; clean and wipe the spot, and dump that unit 4 of food there. (Regarding the procedure of dumping refer to Uttaradhyayan Sutra, Chapter 24, verses 1-3)
४. [ २ ] निग्गंथं च णं गाहावइकुलं पिंडवायपडियाए अणुप्पविटु केति तिहिं पिंडेहिं उवनिमंतेज्जाएगं आउसो ! अप्पणा भुंजाहि, दो थेराणं दलयाहि, से य ते पडिग्गाहेज्जा, थेरा य से अणुगवेसेयव्वा, सेसं तं चेव जाव परिट्ठावेयवे सिया।
४. [ २ ] गृहस्थ के घर में आहार ग्रहण करने के विचार से प्रविष्ट निर्ग्रन्थ को कोई गृहस्थ तीन पिण्ड ग्रहण करने के लिए उपनिमंत्रण करे-'आयुष्मन् श्रमण ! (इन तीनों में से) एक पिण्ड आप स्वयं खाना और (शेष) दो पिण्ड स्थविर श्रमणों को देना। (इस पर) वह निर्ग्रन्थ उन तीनों पिण्डों को ग्रहण कर ले। तत्पश्चात् वह स्थविरों की गवेषणा करे। गवेषणा करने पर जहाँ उन स्थविरों को देखे, वहीं उन्हें वे दोनों पिण्ड दे दे। गवेषणा करने पर भी वे कहीं दिखाई न दें तो शेष वर्णन पूर्ववत् कहना चाहिए, यावत् स्वयं न खाए, परिष्ठापन करे।
4. [2] Suppose an ascetic comes to a householder to seek alms and the householder offers him three units of some food with a request-"O longlived Shraman ! ४. [ ३ ] एवं जाव दसहिं पिंडेहिं उवनिमंतेज्जा, नवरं एगं आउसो ! अप्पणा भुंजाहि, नव थेराणं दलयाहि, सेसं तं चेव जाव परिट्ठावेतब्बे सिया। ___४. [ ३ ] इसी प्रकार गृहस्थ के घर में प्रविष्ट निर्ग्रन्थ को यावत् दस पिण्डों को ग्रहण करने के लिए कोई गृहस्थ उपनिमंत्रण दे -'आयुष्मन् श्रमण ! इनमें से एक पिण्ड आप स्वयं खाना और शेष नौ पिण्ड स्थविरों को देना;' इत्यादि सब वर्णन पूर्ववत् जानना; यावत् परिष्ठापन करे (परठ दे)।
