formed infants) and (3) Sammoorchchhim (birth from asexual origin). This way the whole description should be excerpted from Jivabhigam Sutra up to 'so expansive are those vimaans (celestial vehicles) said to be that they cannot be crossed through'.
[Collative verse-Ways of birth (yoni samgraha), soul complexion (leshya), outlook or perception (drishti), knowledge (jnana), association (yoga), cognition (upayoga), genesis (upapat), life-span (sthiti), bursting forth (samudghat), descent (chyavan), and caste-lineage (jaati-kulakoti).

विवेचन : खेचर पंचेन्द्रिय जीवों के योनिसंग्रह के प्रकार-उत्पत्ति के हेतु को योनि कहते हैं, तथा अनेक का कथन एक शब्द द्वारा कर दिया जाये, उसे संग्रह कहते हैं। खेचर तिर्यंच पंचेन्द्रिय अनेक प्रकार के होते हुए भी उक्त तीन प्रकार के योनिसंग्रह द्वारा उनका कथन किया गया है। अण्डज-अण्डे से उत्पन्न होने वाले मोर, कबूतर, हंस आदि। पोतज-जरायु (जड़-जेर) बिना उत्पन्न होने वाले चिमगादड़ आदि। सम्मूर्छिम-माता-पिता के संयोग के बिना उत्पन्न होने वाले। __ जीवाभिगमसूत्रानुसार खेचर पंचेन्द्रिय तिर्यंच में लेश्या ६, दृष्टि-३, ज्ञान-३ (भजना से), अज्ञान-३ (भजना ना से), योग-३, उपयोग-२ पाये जाते हैं। सामान्यतः ये चारों गति से आते हैं, और चारों गतियों में जाते हैं। इनकी स्थिति जघन्य अन्तर्मुहूर्त, उत्कृष्ट पल्योपम के असंख्यातवें भाग है। केवलीसमुद्घात और आहारसमुद्घात को छोड़कर इनमें पाँच समुद्घात पाये जाते हैं। इनकी बारह लाख कुलकोड़ी है। __ इस प्रकरण में अन्तिम सूत्र विजय, वैजयन्त, जयन्त और अपराजित विमान का है। इन चारों विमानों का विस्तार इतना है कि यदि कोई देव नौ आकाशान्तर प्रमाण (८,५०,७४०१८ योजन) का एक डग भरता हुआ छह महीने तक चले तो किसी विमान के अन्त को प्राप्त करता है, किसी विमान के अन्त को नहीं। जीवाभिगम से विस्तृत वर्णन जान लेना चाहिए।

Elaboration—Ways of birth of birds-Place or way of birth is called yoni. Samgraha means collection, here it is used as suffix for making the plural form. Although birds are of many kinds they can be put into aforesaid three classes in context of way of birth. Andaj, or born from an egg, as are peacock, pigeon, swan etc. Potaj or born as fully formed infants, as are bats. Sammoorchchhim, or produced from asexual origin.
According to Jivabhigam Sutra birds or khechar panchendriya tiryanch have six types of soul-complexions (leshya), three perceptions (drishti), three types of knowledge (sometimes and sometimes not), three types of ignorance (sometimes and sometimes not), three types of
