is the maximum length of the day 18 Muhurts in the northern half too ? And when the maximum length of the day is 18 Muhurts in the northern half then is the night in the region east and west of the Meru mountain in Jambudveep shortest, of twelve Muhurt duration ?
(Ans.] Yes, Gautam ! (It is like that, which means-) In the southern half of the continent named Jambudveep... and so on up to... twelve Muhurt duration.
८. [प्र. ] जया णं जंबुद्दीवे दीवे मंदरस्स पुरथिमेणं उक्कोसए अट्ठारस जाव तया णं जंबुद्दीवे दीवे पच्चत्थिमेण वि उक्कोसेणं अट्ठारसमुहुत्ते दिवसे भवति ? जया णं पच्चत्थिमेणं उक्कोसए अट्ठारसमुहुत्ते दिवसे भवति तदा णं भंते ! जंबुद्दीवे दीवे उत्तर-दाहिणे दुवालसमुहुत्ता जाव राई भवति ?
[उ. ] हंता, गोयमा ! जाव भवति।
८. [प्र. ] भगवन् ! जब जम्बूद्वीप के मेरु पर्वत से पूर्व में उत्कृष्ट अठारह मुहूर्त का दिन होता है, तब क्या जम्बूद्वीप के पश्चिम में भी उत्कृष्ट अठारह मुहूर्त का दिन होता है ? और भगवन् ! जब पश्चिम में उत्कृष्ट अठारह मुहूर्त का दिवस होता है, तब क्या जम्बूद्वीप के उत्तर में जघन्य बारह मुहूर्त की रात्रि होती है ?
[उ. ] हाँ, गौतम ! यह इसी तरह-यावत् होता है।
8. [Q.] Bhante ! When the maximum length of the day is 18 Muhurts in the region east of the Meru mountain in Jambudveep then is the maximum length of the day 18 Muhurts in the region west of the Meru mountain too ? And when the maximum length of the day is 18 Muhurts in the east then is the night in the northern region of Jambudveep shortest, of twelve Muhurt duration ?
(Ans.) Yes, Gautam ! (It is like that, which means--)... and so on up to... twelve Muhurt duration.
९. [प्र. ] जया णं भंते ! जंबुद्दीचे दाहिणड्ढे अट्ठारसमुहुत्ताणंतरे दिवसे भवति तया णं उत्तरे अट्ठारसमुहुत्ताणंतरे दिवसे भवति ? जया णं उत्तरे अट्ठारसमुहुत्ताणंतरे दिवसे भवति तया णं जंबुद्दीवे दरस्स पव्वयस्स पुरत्थिम-पच्चत्थिमेणं सातिरेगा दुवालसमुहुत्ता राई भवति ? [उ. ] हंता, गोयमा ! जया णं जंबुद्दीवे जाव राई भवति।
९. [प्र. ] भगवन् ! जब जम्बूद्वीप के दक्षिणार्द्ध में अठारह मुहूर्तानन्तर (मुहूर्त से कुछ कम) का विस होता है, तब क्या उत्तरार्द्ध में भी अठारह मुहूर्त्तानन्तर का दिवस होता है? और जब उत्तरार्द्ध में ठारह मुहूर्त्तानन्तर का दिन होता है, तब क्या जम्बूद्वीप में मन्दर पर्वत से पूर्व-पश्चिम दिशा में तिरेक (कुछ अधिक) बारह मुहूर्त की रात्रि होती है ?
