५. [प्र. १] भगवन् ! क्या सभी नारक जीव समान आहार वाले, समान शरीर वाले तथा समान उच्छ्वास-निःश्वास वाले होते हैं ?
[ उ. ] गौतम ! ऐसा सम्भव नहीं है।
[प्र. ] भगवन् ! ऐसा किस कारण से कहते हैं कि सभी नारक जीव समान आहार वाले, समान : शरीर वाले तथा समान उच्छवास-निःश्वास वाले नहीं हैं ?
[उ. ] गौतम ! नैरयिक जीव दो प्रकार के होते हैं; जैसे कि-महाशरीरी और अल्पशरीरी (छोटे शरीर वाले)। इनमें जो महाशरीर वाले हैं, वे बहुत पुद्गलों का आहार करते हैं, बहुत (आहृत) पुद्गलों का ॥ परिणमन करते हैं, बहुत पुद्गलों को उच्छ्वास रूप में ग्रहण करते हैं और बहुत पुद्गलों को निःश्वास रूप से छोड़ते हैं तथा वे बार-बार आहार लेते हैं, बार-बार उसे परिणमाते हैं, तथा बार-बार उच्छ्वासनिःश्वास लेते हैं तथा जो छोटे शरीर वाले नारक हैं, वे थोड़े पुद्गलों का आहार करते हैं, थोड़े-से ॥ (आहत) पदगलों का परिणमन करते हैं और थोडे पदगलों को उच्छवास रूप से ग्रहण करते हैं तथा थोडेसे पुद्गलों को निःश्वास रूप से छोड़ते हैं। वे कदाचित् आहार करते हैं, कदाचित् उसे परिणमाते हैं और कदाचित् उच्छ्वास तथा निःश्वास लेते हैं। इसलिए गौतम ! ऐसा कहा जाता है कि सभी नारक जीव समान है आहार वाले, समान शरीर वाले और समान उच्छ्वास-निःश्वास वाले नहीं हैं।
5. [0. 1] Bhante ! Do all infernal beings have the same intake, body (physical dimensions) and respiration ?
[Ans.] Gautam ! That is not possible.
(Q.) Bhante ! Why do you say that all infernal beings do not have the same intake, body (physical dimensions) and respiration ?
[Ans.] Gautam ! Infernal beings are said to be of two kindsmahashariri (large bodied) and alpashariri (small bodied). Of these the large bodied ones take large number of matter particles, transform large number of matter particles so taken, inhale large number of matter particles and exhale large number of matter particles. They also have frequent intake, frequent transformation, frequent inhalation and frequent exhalation. On the other hand the small bodied ones take small number of matter particles, transform small number of matter particles so taken, inhale small number of matter particles and exhale small number of matter particles. They also have infrequent intake, infrequent transformation, infrequent inhalation and infrequent exhalation. That is why, Gautam ! It is said that all infernal beings do not have the same intake, body (physical dimensions) and respiration.
[प्र. २ ] नेरइया णं भंते ! सब्बे समकम्मा ? [उ.] गोयमा ! णो इणट्टे समठे।
