soul by means of five sense organs and the mind), infinite modes 卐 (paryayas) of Shrut-jnana (scriptural knowledge), infinite modest
(paryayas) of Avadhi-jnana (knowledge acquired through extrasensory perception of the physical dimension; something akin to clairvoyance), infinite modes (paryayas) of Manahparyav jnana (extrasensory y perception and knowledge of thought process and thought-forms of other y beings, something akin to telepathy); infinite modes of Mati-ajnana (ignorance related to sensory knowledge), Shrut-ajnana (ignorance of scriptural knowledge), Vibhang-jnana or Avadhi-ajnana (ignorance related to Avadhi-jnana or pervert Avadhi-jnana); and infinite modes of y Chakshu-darshan (visual perception), Achakshu-darshan (non-visual ! perception), Avadhi-darshan (extrasensory perception) and Keval-: darshan (all enveloping perception). This is because the unique attribute i of jiva (soul) is upayog (intent or sentience). That is why, Gautam ! It is said that 'it can be stated that a soul (jiva) endowed with inclination to rise... and so on up to... asserts its state of life through self-expression'. आकाशास्तिकाय के भेद-प्रभेद CATEGORIES OF AKASHASTIKAYA
१०. [प्र. ] कइविहे णं भंते ! आगासे पण्णत्ते ? [उ. ] गोयमा ! दुविहे आगासे पण्णत्ते, तं जहा-लोयागासे य अलोयागासे य। १०. [प्र. ] भगवन् ! आकाश कितने प्रकार का है? [उ. ] गौतम ! आकाश दो प्रकार का है, यथा-लोकाकाश और अलोकाकाश। 10. [Q.] Bhante ! Of how many types is akash (space)?
[Ans.] Gautam ! Akash. (space) is of two types-Lokakash (occupied space; universe) and Alokakash (unoccupied space; space beyond).
११. [प्र. ] लोयागासे णं भंते ! किं जीवा ? जीवदेसा, जीवपदेसा, अजीवा, अजीवदेसा, अजीवपएसा ? ॐ [उ. ] गोयमा ! जीवा वि जीवदेसा वि जीवपदेसा वि, अजीवा वि अजीवदेसा वि अजीवपदेसा वि। जे : + जीवा ते नियमा एगिंदिया बेइंदिया तेइंदिया चरिंदिया पंचेंदिया अणिंदिया। जे जीवदेसा ते नियमा : एगिंदियदेसा जाव अणिंदियदेसा। जे जीवपदेसा ते नियमा एगिदियपदेसा जाव अणिंदियपदेसा।
जे अजीवा ते दुविहा पण्णत्ता, तं जहा-रूवी य अरूवी य। जे रूवी ते चउबिहा पण्णत्ता, तं जहाॐ खंधा खंधदेसा खंदपदेसा, परमाणु पोग्गला। जे अरूवी ते पंचविहा पण्णत्ता, तं जहा-धम्मत्थिकाए,
नोधम्मत्थिकायस्स देसे, धम्मत्थिकायस्स पदेसा, अधम्मत्थिकाए, नोअधम्मत्थिकायस्स देसे, अधम्मत्थिकायस्स पदेसा, अद्धासमए।
