2. During that period of time there was a city called Rajagriha. 45 Description (as before). Bhagavan Mahavir arrived there. People came
out. Bhagavan gave his sermon. People dispersed. म ३. [प्र. ] तेणं कालेणं तेणं समएणं जेट्टे अंतेवासी जाव पज्जुवासमाणे एवं वयासी-जे इमे भंते !
बेइंदिया तेइंदिया चउरिदिया पंचिंदिया जाव, एएसि णं आणामं व पाणामं वा उस्सासं वा नीसासं वा जाणामो पासामो। जे इमे पुढविकाइया जाव वणस्सइकाइया एगिंदिया जीवा एएसि णं आणामं वा पाणामं
वा उस्सासं वा निस्सासं वा ण याणामो ण पासामो, एए वि य णं भंते ! जीवा आणमंति वा पाणमंति वा म उस्ससंति वा नीससंति वा ?
[उ. ] हंता, गोयमा ! एए वि य णं जीवा आणमंति वा पाणमंति वा ऊ ससंति वा नीससंति वा।
३. [प्र. ] उस काल उस समय में श्रमण भगवान महावीर स्वामी के ज्येष्ठ अन्तेवासी (शिष्य) श्री म इन्द्रभूति गौतम अनगार यावत्-भगवान की पर्युपासना करते हुए इस प्रकार बोले-भगवन् ! ये जो ॥
द्वीन्द्रिय, त्रीन्द्रिय, चतुरिन्द्रिय और पंचेन्द्रिय जीव हैं, वे जो आभ्यन्तर और बाह्य उच्छ्वास लेते हैं, म उनको हम जानते और देखते हैं, किन्तु पृथ्वीकाय यावत वनस्पतिकाय तक एकेन्द्रिय जीवों के ।
आभ्यन्तर एवं बाह्य उच्छ्वास को तथा आभ्यन्तर एवं बाह्य निःश्वास को हम न जानते हैं और न देखते है हैं। तो भगवन् ! क्या ये पृथ्वीकायादि एकेन्द्रिय जीव आभ्यन्तर और बाह्य उच्छ्वास लेते हैं तथा ॥ आभ्यन्तर और बाह्य निःश्वास छोड़ते हैं ?
[उ. ] हाँ, गौतम ! ये पृथ्वीकायादि एकेन्द्रिय जीव भी आभ्यन्तर और बाह्य उच्छ्वास लेते हैं और आभ्यन्तर एवं बाह्य निःश्वास छोड़ते हैं।
3. [Q.] During that period of time Indrabhuti Anagar, the senior disciple of Bhagavan Mahavir... and so on up to... paid his homage and obeisance and submitted—“Bhante ! We know about and perceive the 5
breathing-in and breathing-out as well as inhalation and exhalation 451 (abhyantar and bahya uchchhavas and nihshvas) of living beings with
two, three, four and five sense organs. But we do not know about and perceive the breathing-in and breathing-out as well as inhalation and exhalation of one-sensed beings including earth-bodied... an up to... plant-bodied beings. Bhante ! Do these one-sensed beings including earth-bodied beings breathe-in and breathe-out as well as inhale and exhale ?
(Ans.) Yes, Gautam ! These one-sensed beings including earth-bodied beings do breathe-in and breathe-out as well as inhale and exhale.
४. [प्र. १ ] किं णं भंते ! एते जीवा आणमंति वा पाणमंति वा उस्ससंति वा नीससंति वा ?
