महापुराणे उत्तरपुराणम सम्यकश्रद्धाय तत्सर्व प्रहृष्टोऽरिबलागमम् । दृष्ट्वाऽऽस्त विस्मितस्ताबदलं तं खेचरेशितुः ।। १२९॥ सहसावेष्टतेवार्क प्रावृडम्भोदजालकम् । कालशम्बरमुख्यं तत्स युद्ध्वा भङ्गमापयत् ॥ १३० ॥ तं सूनुकृतवृत्तान्तं बोधयित्वा खगाधिपम् । अपनीय शिला नागपाशं चैतान्व्यपाशयत् ॥ १३ ॥ नारदागमहेतुञ्च ज्ञापयित्वा सविस्तरम् । आपृच्छयानुमतस्तेन रथं वृषभनामकम् ॥ १३२ ॥ नारदेन समारुह्य 'प्रायात् द्वारावतीं प्रति । स्वपूर्वभवसम्बन्धं शृण्वंस्तेन निरूपितम् ॥ १३३ ॥ हास्तिनाख्यपुरं प्राप्य दुर्योधनमहीभृतः । जलधेश्च सुता कन्यां मान्यामुदधिसज्ञया ॥ १३ ॥ दातुं भानुकुमाराय महाभिषवणोत्सवम् । विधीयमानं वीक्ष्यासौ रथे प्रस्तरविद्यया ॥ १३५ ॥ नारदं शिलयाच्छाद्य तस्मादुत्तीर्य भूतलम् । बहुप्रकारं हासानां तत्र कृत्वा ततो गतः ॥ १३६ ॥ मधुराया बहिर्भागे पाण्डवान् स्वप्रियां सुताम् । प्रदित्सून् गच्छतो भानुकुमाराय निवीक्ष्य सः ॥१३७। समारोपितकोदण्डहस्तो व्याधाकृतिं दधत् । तेषां कदर्थनं कृत्वा नाना द्वारवतीमितः ॥ १३८ ॥ विधाय विद्यया प्राग्वनारदं स्यन्दनस्थितम् । एकाकी स्वयमागत्य विद्याशाखामृगाकृतिः ॥ १३९ ॥ बमा सत्यभामाया नन्दनं वा वनं वनम् । तत्पानवापीनिःशेषजलपूर्णकमण्डलुः ॥ १४ ॥ ततो गत्वान्तरं किञ्चित्स्यन्दनोरभरासभान् । विपर्यासं समायोज्य मायारूपधरः स्मरः ॥ १४१ ॥ पुरगोपुरनिर्याणप्रवेशनगतान् जनान् । साहासान् समापाद्य प्रविश्य नगरं पुनः ॥ १४२ ॥ 'शालाख्यवैद्यवेषेण स्वं प्रताप्य स्वविद्यया । विच्छिन्नकर्णसन्धानवेदित्वादि प्रघोषयन् ॥ १४३॥
संतुष्ट हुआ और उसपर विश्वास कर वहीं बैठ गया । शत्रुकी सेनाका आगमन देखकर वह आश्चर्य में पड़ गया। थोड़े ही देर बाद, जिस प्रकार वर्षा ऋतुमें बादलोंका समूह सूर्यको घेर लेता है उसी प्रकार अकस्मात् विद्याधर राजाकी सेनाने प्रद्युम्नको घेर लिया परन्तु प्रद्युम्नने युद्ध कर उन कालसंवर आदि समस्त विद्याधरोंको पराजित कर दिया। तदनन्तर-उसने राजा कालसंवरके लिए उनके पुत्रोंका समस्त वृत्तान्त सुनाया, शिला हटाकर नागपाश दूर किया और सबको बन्धन रहित इसी तरह नारदके आनेका कारण भी विस्तारके साथ कहा। तत्पश्चात् वह राजा कालसंवरकी अनुमति लेकर वृषभ नामक रथपर सवार हो नारदके प्रति रवाना हुआ। बीचमें नारदजीके द्वारा कहे हुए अपने पूर्वभवोंका सम्बन्ध सुनता हुआ वह हस्तिनापुर जा पहुंचा। वहांके राजा दुर्योधनकी जलधि नामकी रानीसे उत्पन्न हुई एक उदधिकुमारी नामकी उत्तम कन्या थी। भानुकुमारको लिए उसका महाभिषेक रूप उत्सव हो रहा था। उसे देख प्रद्युम्नने प्रस्तर विद्यासे उत्पन्न एक शिलाके द्वारा नारदजीको तो रथपर ही ढक दिया और आप स्वयं रथसे उतर कर पृथिवी तलपर आ गया और उन लोगोंकी बहुत प्रकारकी हँसी कर वहाँ से आगे बढ़ा ।। १२८-१३६ ।। चलते-चलते वह मथरा नगरके बाहर पहुंचा, वहॉपर पाण्डव लोग अपनी प्यारी पुत्री भानुकुमारको देनेके लिए जा
ने उन्हें देख. उसने धनुष हाथमें लेकर एक भीलका रूप धारण कर लिया और उन सबका नाना प्रकारका तिरस्कार किया। तदनन्तर वहाँ से चलकर द्वारिका पहुँचा ।। १६७-१३८॥ वहाँ उसने नारदजीको तो पहलेके ही समान विद्याके द्वारा रथपर अवस्थित रक्खा और स्वयं अकेला ही नीचे आया। वहाँ आकर उसने विद्याके द्वारा एक वानरका रूप बनाया और नन्दन वनके समान सत्यभामाका जो वन था उसे तोड़ डाला, वहाँकी बावड़ीका समस्त पानी अपने कमण्डल में भर लिया। फिर कुछ दूर जाकर उसने अपने रथमें उल्टे मेढे तथा गधे जोते और स्वयं मायामयी रूप धारण कर लिया ॥ १३६-१४१ ।। इस क्रियासे उसने नगरके गोपुरमें आने जानेवाले लोगोंको खूब हँसाया । तदनन्तर नगरके भीतर प्रवेश किया ॥ १४२ ॥ और अपनी विद्याके बलसे शाल नामक वैद्यका रूप बनाकर घोषणा करना शुरू कर दी कि मैं कटे हुए कानोंका जोड़ना आदि कर्म जानता
