१९२०७ इस प्रकार विचार करने पर महापुराणके तीनों भागोंकी अनुष्टुप् श्लोक-संख्याका प्रमाण उन्नास हजार दो सौ सात है और यह भदन्त गुणभद्रद्वारा प्रतिपादित आनुमानिक प्रमाणसे मिलता-जुलता है। पाठान्तरमें दिया हुआ चौबीस हजारका प्रमाण ठीक नहीं है।
अनुवाद और आभार-प्रदर्शन उतरपुराणके पाठ-भेद लेने में श्री पं० कपूरचन्द्रजी आयुर्वेदाचार्य, श्री लक्ष्मणप्रसादजी 'प्रशान्त' साहित्यशास्त्री, मास्टर परमेष्ठीदासजी विद्यार्थी, गोकुलचन्द्रजी तथा विद्यार्थी राजेन्द्रकुमारजी आदिका पूर्ण सहयोग प्राप्त हुआ है। इसलिए इन सबका आभारी हूं। हस्तलिखित प्रतियोंके वाचनमें श्रीमान् वयोवृद्ध पं० लालारामजी शास्त्री द्वारा अनूदित एवं प्रकाशित उत्तरपुराणसे पर्याप्त साहाय्य प्राप्त हुआ है। मैं उनका आभार मानता हूँ। प्रस्तावना लेखमें श्रीमान् नाथूरामजी प्रेमी एवं पं. के. भुजबली शाही मूडबिद्रीके क्रमशः 'रामकथाकी विभिन्न धाराएँ' और 'बंकापुरका परिचय' शीषर्क प्रकरण दिये गये हैं अतः । मैं इनका भी आभारी हूँ । इस ग्रन्थके सम्पादन एवं अनुवादमें दो वर्षका लम्बा समय लग गया है। दूरवर्ती रहनेके कारण मैं इसका प्रफ स्वयं नहीं देख सका हूँ अतः पं० महादेवजी चतुर्वेदी व्याकरणाचार्य बनारसने देखा है, मेरा ध्यान है कि उन्होंने इस विषयमें काफी सावधानी रखी है। इसका प्रकाशन भारतीय ज्ञानपीठ बनारसकी ओरसे हुआ है अतः मैं उसके संचालक और व्यवस्थापक महानुभावों का अत्यन्त आभारी हूँ।
महापुराण, पद्मपुराण कौर हरिवंशपुराण ये तीन पुराण,दिगम्बर जैन प्रथमानुयोग साहित्यके अनूठे रत्न हैं । मैंने इनका स्वाध्याय कई बार किया है। मनमें इच्छा होती थी कि इनका आधुनिक रूपसे सम्पादन तथा अनुवाद हो जाय तो आम जनताका बहुत उपकार हो। इन तीन ग्रन्थों में से महापुराणका सम्पादन और अनुवाद कर मुझे बहुत प्रसन्नता हुई है। पद्मपुराण और हरिवंशपुराणके सम्पादन तथा अनुवादकी आवश्यकता अवशिष्ट है। देखू उसकी पूर्ति कब होती है।
ग्रन्थ महान् है और मेरी बुद्धि अत्यन्त अल्प है उतने पर भी गृहस्थीके भारसे दबा रहनेके कारण अनेक कार्यों में व्यस्त रहना पड़ता है इसलिए जहाँ कहीं अनुवादमें श्रुटि होना संभव है अतः विद्वज्जनोंसे क्षमाप्रार्थी हूँ।

This work took two long years to edit and translate. Due to my distance, I could not personally proofread it. Pan. This publication is by the Indian Knowledge Institute of Banaras, and I am deeply grateful to its directors and administrators.

The Mahapurana, Padma Purana, and Harivansh Purana are three unique gems of the Digambar Jain Prathamanuyog literature. I have studied them many times. I always wished for their modern edition and translation, which would greatly benefit the general public. I am very happy to have edited and translated the Mahapurana. The need for editing and translating the Padma Purana and Harivansh Purana remains. Let's see when that happens.

This work is great, and my intellect is very limited. Moreover, burdened by the responsibilities of a householder, I am busy with many tasks. Therefore, I apologize to the learned scholars for any possible errors in the translation.
