महापुराणे उत्तरपुराणम् प्रसाधनविशेषाणामपि चैकं प्रसाधनम् । आचारपालनायैव भूषयित्वा विभूषणैः ॥ ४०५ ॥ 'सर्वशान्तिप्रदो देवः शान्तिरित्यस्तु नामभाक । इति तस्याभिषेकान्ते नामासौ निरवर्तयत् ॥ ४०६ ॥ प्रीत्या सुरवरैः साई मन्दरादेत्य मन्दिरम् । जनन्याः सर्वमावेच जगदीशं समर्पयत् ॥ ४०७ ॥ अनृत्यचोदितानन्दो' बहुभावरसोदयः । सम्मदश्चेदमर्यादः सरागं के न नर्तयेत् ॥ ४०८ ॥ लोकपालांखिलोकानां पालकस्य महात्मनः। बालकस्यास्य कल्पेशः पालकान्पयंकल्पयत् ॥ ४०९॥ इति द्वितीयकल्याणसाकल्यसमनन्तरम् । सशक्राः सर्वगीर्वाणाः स्वं स्वमोकः समं ययुः॥१०॥ चतुर्विभक्तपल्योपमञ्यंशोनत्रिसागरे । धर्मतीर्थस्य सन्ताने पल्यतुर्याशशेषिते ॥ ११॥ ब्युच्छिन्ने युक्तिसन्मार्गे तदभ्यन्तरजीवितः । शान्तिः समुदपाचानमन्नरामरनायकः ॥ १२॥ लक्षासमायुश्चत्वारिंशचापागः सुवर्णरुक् । ध्वजतोरणसूर्येन्दुशङ्खचक्रादिलक्षणः ॥ ४१३॥ पुण्याद् ढरथो दीर्घमनुभूयाहमिन्द्रताम् । विश्वसेनायशस्वस्यां सुतश्चक्रायुधोऽभवत् ॥ १४॥ महामणिरिवाम्भोधौ गुणानां वा गणो मुनौ । तत्र शान्तिरगाद् वृद्धि प्रमदो वोदितोदिते ॥ १५॥ वन्ते स्म गुणास्तस्मिन् स्पर्दैनावयवैः क्रमात् । तथा विधाय सौन्दर्य कीर्तिलक्ष्मीः सरस्वती ॥४१६॥ अभात्तस्यात्तसौन्दर्य रूपमापूर्णयौवने । विधोविंधूतवैकल्यमिव पर्वणि मण्डलम् ॥ ४१०॥ मृदवस्तनवः सिग्धाः कृष्णाः केशाः 'सुकुञ्चिताः । प्राशिताबञ्चरीकाभाः शुभास्तन्मस्तकस्थिताः ॥१८॥ शिरो विराजते तस्य शिखर वा महन्मरोः । ललाटापट्टभाजोऽस्मादहमेवोपरीति वा ॥ ११९॥
किया ।। ३६६-४०४ । यद्यपि भगवान् स्वयं उत्तमोत्तम आभूषणों में से एक आभूषण थे तथापि इन्द्रने केवल आचारका पालन करनेके लिए ही उन्हें आभूषणोंसे विभूषित किया था । ४०५ ॥ 'ये भगवान् सबको शान्ति देनेवाले हैं इसलिए 'शान्ति' इस नामको प्राप्त हो ऐसा सोच कर इन्द्रने अभिषेकके बाद उनका शान्तिनाथ नाम रक्खा ॥४०६॥ तदनन्तर धर्मेन्द्र सब देवोंके साथ बड़े प्रेमसे सुमेरु पर्वतसे राजमन्दिर आया और मातासे सब समाचार कह कर उसने वे त्रिलोकीनाथ माताको सौंप दिये ॥४०७१। जिसे आनन्द प्रकट हो रहा है तथा जिसके अनेक भावों और रसोंका उदय हुआ है ऐसे इन्द्रने नृत्य किया सो ठीक ही है क्योंकि जबहर्ष मर्यादाका उल्लंघन कर जाता है तो किस रागी मनुष्यको नहींनचा देता? ॥४०८।। यद्यपि भगवान् तीन लोकके रक्षक थे तो भी इन्द्रने उन. बालक रूपधारी महात्माकी रक्षा करनेके लिए लोकपालोंको नियुक्त किया था ॥४०६ ॥ इस प्रकार जन्मकल्याणकका उत्सव पूर्ण कर समस्त देव इन्द्रके साथ अपने-अपने स्थान पर चले गये ॥४१०।।
धर्मनाथ तीर्थकरके बाद पौन पल्य कम तीन सागर बीत जाने तथा पाव पल्य तक धर्मका विच्छेद हो लेनेपर जिन्हें मनुष्य और इन्द्र नमस्कार करते हैं ऐसे शान्तिनाथ भगवान् उत्पन्न हुए थे। उनकी आयु भी इसीमें सम्मिलित थी॥ ४११-४१२ ।। उनकी एक लाख वर्षकी आयु थी, चालीस धनुष ऊँचा शरीर था, सुवर्णके समान कान्ति थी, ध्वजा, तोरण, सूर्य, चन्द्र, शङ्ख और चक्र मादिके चिह्न उनके शरीरमें थे॥४१३ ॥ पुण्यकर्मके उपयसे दृढ़रथ भी दीर्घकाल तक अहमिन्द्रपनेका अनुभवकर राजा विश्वसेनकी दूसरी रानी यशस्वतीके चक्रायुध नामका पुत्र हुआ॥४१४ ॥ जिस प्रकार समुद्र में महामणि बढ़ता है, मुनिमें गुणोंका समूह बढ़ता है और प्रकट हुए अभ्युदयमें हर्ष बढ़ता है उसी प्रकार वहाँ बालक शान्तिनाथ बढ़ रहे थे॥४१५ ।। उनमें अनेक गुण, अवयवोंके साथ स्पर्धा करके ही मानो क्रम-क्रमसे बढ़ रहे थे और कीर्ति, लक्ष्मी तथा सरस्वती इस प्रकार बढ़ रही थीं मानो सगी बहिन ही हों॥४१६ ॥ जिस प्रकार पूर्णिमाके दिन विकलता-खण्डावस्थासे रहित चन्द्रमाका मण्डल सुशोभित होता है उसी प्रकार पूर्ण यौवन प्राप्त होनेपर उनका रूप सौन्दर्य प्राप्तकर अधिक सुशोभित हो रहा था ॥ ४१७ ॥ उनके मस्तकपर इकट हुए भ्रमरोंके समान, कोमल पतले, चिकने, काले और घूघरवाले शुभ बाल बड़े ही अच्छे जान पड़ते थे॥४१८ । उनका शिर
