At that time, the Muni, abandoning alms, left the house of the Seth. Not knowing the reason for his departure, the king asked Abhimati Ganini (Aryika). Abhimati, as she had heard, said:
"In this Pushkalavati country, near the Vijayardha mountain, there is a large forest called Dhanayakamal. Near that forest is a large city called Shobhanagar. The king of that city was Prajapal, and his wife was Devashri. She was like Devashri, giving happiness.
Prajapal had a minister named Shaktishen, and his wife was Atvishri, who gave him joy. They had a son named Satydev. At one time, all of them, being near-liberated, heard the Dharma from my feet. The king was also with them. Hearing the Dharma, they all gave up alcohol and meat, and took the vow of fasting on the festival day. Shaktishen, being devoted, also took the vow of a householder, and along with that, he took the vow that I would eat after the time of the Muni's meal.
Shaktishen's wife, Atvishri, took the vow of giving up food on the first day of the bright fortnight and the eighth day of the dark fortnight for five years. She took the vow of the Anuprabuddha Kalyana fast, and Satydev also took the vow of praising the saints.
Thus, all of them, without right faith, took the adornment of vows. One day, the commander Shaktishen, with his army, went to his parents' city, Mrinnalavati, to take Atvishri. Returning from there, he stopped near the Serpent Lake in the Dhanayakamal forest. At that time, another incident happened, which is told as follows.
