Mahapuraanam. A man with beautiful senses desires to enhance his beauty through bathing, garlands, anointments, and ornaments. ||56|| Carrying the abode of doshas, dhatus, and malas, a man, bearing this body of senses, is always anxious to protect it through food and medicine. ||60|| Seeing many doshas like birth and death, and being distressed by the body, a wise man, when he tries to perform austerities with the desire to abandon it, accepts the body as the abode of the senses, the happiness and income associated with it, and finally, seeing it perish, desires another sensory abode. ||61-62|| But he who has offspring of transcendental knowledge, transcendental vision, transcendental strength, and transcendental happiness, and who is endowed with his own self-nature, body, abode, and beauty, is never touched by the aforementioned doshas. Therefore, one should consider him who has offspring of transcendental knowledge, strength, and happiness as an "apt" (one who has attained liberation), and one who does not possess these qualities as an "anapt" (one who has not attained liberation). ||63-64|| Now, a clarification of the meaning of this statement is given, because until the clarification of a thing, its true knowledge is not obtained. ||65|| A man who has transcendental knowledge does not rely on the meaning of any other scripture, but he himself, possessing pure eyes of knowledge and knowing all things in the three periods of time, teaches everyone. ||66|| Similarly, a being who has transcendental vision never desires to see an unprecedented thing, because he who sees all things at once has no unseen thing. ||67|| A man who has infinite strength that is not subject to decay also does not desire the help of any other being, but... 1 food. 2 body protection. 3 birth, etc. 4 body-afflicted. 5 desire to abandon it. 6 observer. 7 strives. 8 palace-like cause of sensory pleasure. 9 considering. 10 touch. 11 possessing transcendental knowledge, etc. 12 therefore, because of that. 13 of the two verses about transcendental, etc. 14 with certainty. 15 caused by scripture. 16 being helped by another.
