The Mahapurana, free from all rules, is the Dharma spoken by the Jinas. They did not desire even a hair's breadth of attachment, which is of two kinds. ||172|| They were free from attachment even to their own bodies, firmly established in the path of Dharma. They were saints, free from thirst, with the feeling of contentment. ||173|| Those who followed the vow of renunciation of attachment in its highest form, those homeless monks, would stay in one place wherever the sun set. ||174|| Those royal sages loved to stay in secluded and pure places, therefore they would stay in villages for one day and in cities for no more than five days. ||175|| Those monks, free from seven fears, would dwell in deserted places like empty houses or cremation grounds, with courage. ||176|| Those great-souled princes considered it good to dwell in caves and forests filled with evil creatures like lions, etc., every day. ||177|| Those monks dwelt fearlessly on the edges of mountains, resounding with the roars of lions, bears, wolves, tigers, leopards, etc., and the terrifying sounds of those animals. ||179|| Those monks dwelt fearlessly in forests resounding with the harsh roars of lion cubs. ||180|| Those monks dwelt at night in large cremation grounds where groups of Dakinis roam near dancing headless trunks, where the forests are filled with the loud cries of owls, and where all directions are filled with the inauspicious sounds of jackals. ||181-182||
