लक्षणम् ), or better still, the एकत्वभावना. In the Uttaradhyayana Sutra however we find:
एगओ विरई कुज्जा एगओ य पवत्तणं ।
असंजमे नियति च संजमे य पवत्तणं ॥xxxI. 2. i. e., one should practise abstinence in one respect, and advancement in the other; i. e., Jiva should abstain for असंजम, indisciplined life, and advance with self-discipline. .
(2) TT The afour fa usifau, he sent away, ( lit : made to fly ) both TTT and 79. The Uttarã. however mentions TT and a which is more in keeping with the usual list. Our text certainly reads te in all Mss.
a) तिण्णि वि सल्लई हियउद्धरियइं, he removed from his heart the three शल्यs, viz., मायाशल्य, निदानशल्य and मिथ्यादर्शनशल्य.
(b) तिण्णि वि रयणई लह संभवियइं, he soon acquired the three jewels, viz., सम्यग्ज्ञान, सम्यग्दर्शन and सम्यक्चारित्र.
c) तिण्णि वि डंभ मुक्क संखेवें, he left quickly ( संखेवें, संक्षेपेण, शीघ्रम् ) the three types of crookedness, viz, bodily, verbal and mental. The Uttara. has मनोदण्ड, वाग्दण्ड and कायदण्ड in place of डंभ of our Text..
(d) Tita fafour faafsetu ā, the divine one, i. e, Bahubali, avoided three गारवा (गौरव), viz., रिद्धिगारव, रसगारव and सायागारव. The Uttara. adds three उपसर्गs here:
दिवे य जे उवसग्गे वहा तेरिच्छमाणुसे ।
जे भिक्खू सहई जयई न से अच्छइ मण्डले ॥५॥ (4) चउगइकम्मणिबंधणरमियउ सण्णउ चत्तारि वि उपसमियउ, he suppressed or pacified the frur appetites or emotions, viz., आहार, भय, परिग्रह and मैथुन, which take delight as it were in forming कर्म which puts the Jiva in the fourfold संसार, viz., देव, नारक, तिर्यक् and मनुष्य. The Uttara. has :
विगहाकसायसन्नाणं झाणाणं च दुयं तहा ।
. . जे भिक्ख वज्जई निच्चं न से अच्छइ मण्डले ॥६॥ There are four विकथाs, viz., राज्य, देश, भोजन, and स्त्री; there are four कषायs, viz., क्रोध, मान, माया and लोभ; the four संज्ञाs are mentioned above; the four ध्यानs are आर्त, रौद्र, शक्ल and धर्म out of which first two types are bad...
(5) (a) पंच महन्वयाई, the five great vows of the monk, viz., अहिंसा. अदत्तादानवर्जन, असत्यवर्जन, परिग्रहत्याग, and ब्रह्मचर्य.
(b) पंचसवदारइं, the five sources of sin, viz,, हिंसा, अदत्तादान, असत्य, परिग्रह and मैथुन.
