PREFACE
The L. D. Institute of Indology has great pleasure in publishing the present volume containing the Haimanāmamālāśiloñcha and the Dipikā. The siloncha is a supplement to the Haimanāmamālā of Ac. Hemacandra. It consists of 139 Sanskrit verses. It is composed by Ac. Jinadevasūri (V. S. 1450) of Laghukharataragacha. The Dipikā is a commentary on this siolñcha, written by Srivallabha Gani (V. S. 1625) of Kharataragaccha.
Siloncha was included in the Abhidhana-Sangraba (Collection of Sanskrit Ancient Lexicons) published by Nirnayasagara Press, Bombay, in the year 1896 A. D. It was also iucluded in the Abhidhāna. cintāmaņikośa published by Jasavantalal G. Shah, Ahmedabad, in the year V. S. 2013 (A, D. 1957). But the text printed in these two editions was not critically edited, whereas the text printed in this volume is critically edited on the basis of three old mss.; the variants are noted in the Appendix 4. The Dipika on the siloñcha is published here for the first time. The editor has utilised three old mss. for the preparation of the critical edition of the text of Dipikā.
The L. D. Institute of Indology is thankful to Mabopadhyaya Vinayasagraji for critically editing the texts of siloñcha and Dipika. He has written an interesting and informative introduction to this edition. Therein he has given a detailed account of the life and works of the authors of these two works. Regarding Srivallabha he tells us that he had earned the title of vādı and that though he belonged to Kharataragaccha he wrote a mahakavya entitled 'Vijayadevamabātmya' whose hero is Āc. Vijaya. devasūri of Tapagaccha.
Four Appendices added at the end of this volume by the learned editor enhance the value of this edition. Appendix 1 is an index of words; words found in the Dipikā alone are marked by the sign o. Appendix 2 lists alphabetically the quotations occurring in the Dipikā. Appendix 3 lists titles of the works and names of the authors mentioned in the Dipika. Appendix 4 records variants yielded by those three mss. of the siloñcha.
It is hoped that the publication of this important work will be useful to those interested in the subject of Sanskrit Lexicon.
