INTRODUCTION
1. Critical apparatus and text-constitution
The present edition of the Vasudevahimḍ: Majjhima-khamda (VM.) (part 1) is based on the following five Mss. :
1.. This palm-leaf ms., written in Devanagari characters, belo. ngs to Sri Santinath Jain Tadipatriya Granth Bhandar at Khambhat (Camb. ay). It bears the no. 211. In all there are 219 folios each measuring 29" x 2.25" (74 x 5 cm.), written on both sides. The first folio, however, is written on one side. The first and the last folio are in fragments. There are four to five lines on each side of the folic. The number of akṣaras (letters) per line vary from 100 to 135. This is the oldest of all available VM. mss. It was written in 1390 V.S. (i.e. 1334 A.D.) This ms, contains only the first part (Purvardha) of the VM. i. e. Lambhas 1 to 17 and a part of the 18th. See further below. It begins

.. वसुदेवहिंडी । प्रथायेण सह बट् शतानि षट् ६६०० । उभयं ग्रंथ १७८०० || छ|| संव[त्] १३९० वर्षे कार्त्तिक दि ७ शनौ दिने लिखितं ॥७॥ ॥ छ ॥ छ ॥ 2. . This is a photostat copy (L. D. Institute of Indology, Reg. no. 33704) of the paper ms. from Hemacandrācārya Jñan Mandir, Patan. It is numbered as 113:0. There are 494 photo plates (size 26.3 x 10.5 cn.) containing 247 filios of the paper ms. The paper ms. seems to bave been written in about the 16th century
of the Vikrama Era.
This ms. contains both the lat and the 2nd part ( Pūrvārdha and Uttarardha) of the VM.
