PREFACE
We are very happy to publish the collection of brief articles written by late Shri Mohanlal Dalichand Desai. Shri Mohanlal Desai was an outstanding scholar of language, literature, and history. Abridged history of the Jaina literature (in Gujarātī) prepared by him is considered to be one of the most authenti as reference book even today, indeed after 65 years of its first publication. Moreover, Jaina Gurjara poets in ten parts re-edited, enlarged and perspicuously revised by late Shri Jayantbhai Kothari, is a very useful basic work in the subject. It was, therefore, felt necessary to publish all his brief articles and notes published by him in various literary magazines. Shri Jayantbhai Kothari had arduously finished this great task of collecting those valuable articles. We are very gratetful to late Shri Kothari for this laudable work. Shri Jayantbhai, moreover, had commenced to prepare an index of this book, but sadly this work remained incomplete because of his sudden demise. Then after contacting scholars and concerned persons and discussing with them, they all expressed their opinion that the index prepared by Jayantbhai in whatever and at whichever stage it is, must be published.
However it is sad that Shri Jayantbhai is no more with us at the time of this publication. We are deeply grateful to Dr. K. B. Shah for writing an Introduction to this work. Shri Rohitbhai has also contributed significantly to the publication of this book. We are indeed thankful to him. We hope this compilation will be found useful to the scholars and students.
