moods of his lonely seeking he himself remaining away from publicity, and hence the work remained out of print for many years. On the other hand, he initiated the Editor of this compilation to undertake new Hindi translation of ATMASIDDHI and that too without even informing about his own previous translation. But the new effort remained incomplete and his own above said Old Hindi translation was published in 1974 with the L.P. of ATMASIDDHI. But copies of even this Hindi translation in verse published so enthusiastically by Shri Bhawarlal Nahata, got exhausted. The present one, though in folk Hindi, is very much natural, enjoyable and easy to sing or recite.
Atmagya Mataji Dhandeviji
(Born Sambhrai, Kutch: Left: Chaitra Shukla 1, 4.4.1992 at Hampi); Reference hereabove in Bhadra Muni's introduction. Further could be gathered from above works as well as from (1) ATMADRISHTA MATUSHRI DHANDEVI (Bhawarlal Nahata) (2) ATMAGYA MATAJI (Parul Toliya): Hindi/ Gujarati/ English (in PROFILES OF PARUL).
Her Works: Though not much literally educated, she wrote thousands of verses like Meera. Some of them are recently published from Hampi Ashram titled Bhakti Jharana ATMANIRAJHAR" and others. Worth-observing are a few Verses composed on her by Bhadra Muni himself., since Mataji herself remained to be totally secluded and unpublicised, but she had to head the above HAMPI Ashram after Bhadra Muni's passing away from 1970 to 1992, for 22 years, which she did most devotedly spreading the spirit, literature and message of Srimad Rajchandraji in South India.
Varanasi. Finally, Mahatma Gandhiji, while visiting the B.H.U. was impressed by Pandit Sukhlalji so much that he took him to join Gujarat Vidyapith at Ahmedabad. Here he worked laboriously on Jainological works through Punjabhai Jain Granthamala, commenced by Gandhiji to commemorate his respects for Srimad Rajchandraji. Panditji had a galaxy of associate great scholars with him like Muni Jinvijayji, Pandit Bechardasji Doshi, Acharya Dharmananda Kosambi and also the Literature and History professors like Kakasaheb Kalelkar, Kishorlal Mashruwala, Acharya Kripalani etc. Milton-like Panditji's hidden genius bloomed here and shined out more and more presenting a series of immortal philosophical works to the world. Though physically blind, he visualized his inner light and gave expression to his rare intelligence and memory. The author of these lines has seen from his close contacts of 14 long years that his Memory-power, reminding of his inner Soulpower, was next to Srimad Rajchandraji's about which we have read and heard only in these times. The whole Cultural, Scriptural and Spiritual History of last 2500 years (of India) was on the tips of his tongue. Similarly, the ocean of Jain Scriptures! Out of these he gave more than forty works!
This writer is indebted to him so much that it is indescribable to talk of his care and considerations for students and scholars and seekers whether small or big. Apart from being such a possessor of knowledge, his heart was full of compassion. I have seen him sobbing tears on meeting the poor and giving away everything for them in spite of his nominal, meager possessions! Ocean like Panditji's heart was so full of mercy that it went out to totally illiterate gardener or a farmer or a labourer, as soon as he heard their pathetic stories! Students and scholars were his constant visitors, but while studying and dictating his writings, he would be so lost and absorbed that it would be difficult for any one to bring him out from that inner ecstatic world of learning
Panditji had great regards for Gandhiji and his ideology and still greater respects for Gandhi-Guru SRIMADJI's high stature of self-realization and unique scholarship. His writings about Srimadji are the testimony of this. He was recipient of Doctorate from Gujarat and Baroda Universities, Felicitation at the hands of Honourable Dr. Radhakrishnan, Padmabhooshan from India Government and admiration from Great Scholars the world over including Dr. Schubringg of Germany, Acharya Vinobaji, Dr. A. N. Upadhye, etc. Panditji's Renowned works (about 36 or so) are commentaries on TATTWARTHA SOOTRA, SANMATI TARKA; etc. Out of his Articles, DARSHAN and CHINTAN are memorable testimonies of this time.
Padmabhooshan Dr. Pandit Sukhlalji
(Born: 8-12-1880 at Limli, Saurashtra;
Left: 2-3-1978 at Ahmedabad) After losing his eyesight at the age of 16, then Sukhlal had a very unusual course of long and strenuous sufferings to learn Vidya at Varanasi and Mithila. Soul-stirring is the story of his unparalleled endurance and penance. Learning Sanskrit, Prakrit and other oriental and modern languages and all branches of Indian Philosophy with a deeper Comparative study, Sukhlalji passed about 18 to 20 years in this long process. There after Pt. Madan Mohan Malaviya invited him at the famous B.H.U. to head the Jain Chair, which he occupied for several years, during this time he continued his writings and critically rendering the commentaries on various Jain Scriptural Works. From Benaras, he was taken to Viswa Bharati Shantiniketan by Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore. Along with Muni Jinvijayji and others, he stayed there for some time and returned back to
