In its commentary Tattvavaisardi' Vacaspatimisra haa said :
While quoting this very couplet in — Bhamati' a commentary on the 'Bhasya' of * Brahmasutra' (ch. II, B.) Vacaspati misra has said :
Hence it follows that according to Vacaspatimisra the author of Sastitantra' is Varsaganya. In the third spoke of 'Naycakra' Mallavadin Suri has said.
So this Suri, too believes that the author of 'Sastitantra' is Varsaganya. According to some historians this Varsaganya is Sankhya Yogacarya, anterior to Isvarakrsna and alive in the middle of the first century of the christianera. Chinese historians believe that the author of Sastitantra to Pancasikea Acharya and so does Isvrakrsna too. If the following couplets are well considered, the fact that Iswarakrsna belisves that 'Sastitantra' is a work of Pancasikhacarya will appear as valid:
Even Sankaracarya in his Jayamangala says :
In Suvarnasaptati, too, we find the following :
We believe that this Sastitantra was not seen by Vacaspatimisra. For he attributes the authorship of following sentence to Pancasikha, in his Tatvaisaradi.
But he has quoted in 'Yuktidipika' composed in the sixth century of the Vikrama era, by prefixing to it the following :
In that very work we come across the following :
This occurs even in the Bhasya of Vyasa. In its commentary Vacaspatimisra has attributed this to Vyasa, a great sage. On finding this sentence in Vatsyana's Bhasya on "Nyayasutra' some persons interested in history, conjecture the relation of Prior and Posterior regarding. The dates of
